Completely satisfied with the work done by *** and *** on the bathroom. *** provided sound advice on how to obtain the look I wanted considering my needs and budget. The work was done at date planned and within the cost and time estimate originally provided. Everything was left very clean. *** makes things easy, is down to earth, reliable, keeps you updated on progress and the bathroom is beautiful! Thank you *** and ***!
It was a pleasure working for you ***, so glad you are happy
Water staying back in newly installed bath tub
*** of Ottawa Baths brought to my attention that tub cannot be tightened to the drain pipe because drain pipe is weak, and it would cost $500 if replaced. I asked him what the consequences would be if drain pipe is not changed. He told me 'nothing could go wrong' (that he now denies saying it). So, I told him to leave the pipe as it is since nothing could go wrong.
Once the job is completed, I released water into the tub. I noticed that a small amount of water staying back near the tub outlet. I informed *** of the problem. He told me that it will be okay once the tub settles down. But over the weeks water is stretching and staying back more than quarter of the tub leaving behind all the dirt causing health concerns.
I informed *** about the problem that I am countering every day. He agreed to have a look on December 2nd. He insisted that it was my decision not to change the drain pipe (without telling me consequences of not changing the pipe). However, he explained me during our conversation on Dec 2nd that water is going to stay back if the tub is not tightened to the drain pipe. That is the piece of advice he didn't give me when asked on the impact of not changing the pipe. Now he says he didn't know water is going to stay back.
*** failed to understand the objective of having bath tub and dynamics of water flow. No customer/client would want the water to stay back in the tub. Had *** told me that water is going to stay back in the tub, I would have told him to change the pipe right away. ***
As a Bath tub professional, why didn't *** recalculate the situation (of not tightening the tub to the pipe) and ensure that water is not going stay back and drains completely from the tub. Which he explained me on Dec 2nd conversation.
***
As per ***, changing drain pipe now requires the redoing of everything and other related jobs, that will cost another $ 5000 to 6000. So, in addition to that, I request you to investigate amount that needs to be compensated for going through all the problems so that I take up the repair work.
Hope you will reply in 15 days of receipt of this complaint.
Initial Business Response /(1000, 6, 2019/01/02) */
About ***'s complaint, there are several factual errors
1. We did not install a new bath tub. We did an acrylic overlay over his old tub
2. I did not say it would cost $500 to fix what he describes as " tub cannot be tightened to the drain pipe because drain pipe is weak ". I told him it would be between 2 and 3 thousand dollars of work not included in the original quote to fix the drain pipe (the old tub would have to be cut out and replaced to change the pipe, the custom ordered acrylic overlay costing $1000 thrown in the garbage, buy a new bathtub and install that)
3. I DEFINITELY did not say nothing could go wrong. I actually paid my employee to stand there and note that I warned him, after he said not to fix it, that I had no idea what the end result would be, and that I was specifically telling him that I had no idea if it would cause problems. I repeatedly told him that I wanted to cut out the old tub and do the job properly, he said he did not have the money.
4. I did not tell him the water staying in the tub would settle down with time. I told him that I was not happy with the result, of course, and when he asked for a $500 discount on the job, I said OK. So, please also note, we have already reached a settlement on this issue. He now wants to have a SECOND! resolution on the same problem!!!
5. He says I should have known the water would stay in the tub. How could I possibly know this? I tried to do the job properly, warning him that I had no idea what would happen if not done properly, he told me he could not pay to do it properly. I always do jobs properly, I warned him repeatedly I did not know how it would turn out if not done properly, and now he says I should have known this issue would happen?
6. The water pool has not increased with time, it is exactly the same as the day we finished the job
7. When I went back on December 2, I did tell him that he was the one that made the decision. I told him that at the time, it was a 2-3 thousand dollar job at the original time, now he is saying that I said $500. My employee witnessed that conversation, I wanted a witness to what was said. I also told him that now, to replace the original tub, the job would cost about $5000, yes. That is because after he made the decision NOT to cut out and replace the tub, we proceeded to cover the original tub with the acrylic overlay, prepare the walls above the tub, and cover the walls above the tub with $1600 worth of acrylic panels. To remove the tub now, all of that work has to be torn out and replaced
***
I already gave him a $500 discount as compensation for this problem, which was the amount he requested as the resolution
He was the one who, AGAINST MY ADVICE!, refused to have me do the job properly. Why should I be penalized for his decision to do the job improperly to save money, that ask for me to do the work for free that he originally refused to pay for?

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /(3000, 8, 2019/01/07) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I hired a Revdex.com accredited bath tub installer to ensure not to make water stay back in the tub. Why a Revdex.com accredited bath tub professional having vast experience in installing bath tubs failed to understand the objective of having bath tub and dynamics of water flow. Hence failed to inform me of consequences.
There was no warning or advice from *** on the consequences of not tightening the tub to the pipe. He only told me pipe would crack if tightened. ***
There was no settlement done on this issue. The discount of $500 I had asked him to cancel from the miscellaneous charges quoted in the estimate.
*** was discussing $500 to change the drain pipe. Upon hearing 'nothing could go wrong' I told him to keep it as it is - do not mean that dirty water should stay back in the tub. No one wants that.
Apart from water staying back I am worried on the impact of what if water backs up from the drain since tub is not secured properly.

Final Business Response /(4000, 12, 2019/01/08) */
I am sorry, but there is no middle ground here. *** made a decision, against my advice, refusing to pay to do the job properly. I could not possibly foresee the consequences of doing what he told me to do. And now he wants me to, for free, go back and tear out everything and go back and do it properly?
He refused to pay to do the work properly before, now he wants me to do it for free?
Plus, even though I had done what *** told me, I gave him a discount because the job did not turn out perfectly, exactly the amount he asked for, $500. His explanation that this was for my agreeing to cancel what he calls the "miscellaneous charge" is totally inaccurate. When I do a job for a client, I give a firm price for the labor for a job. Then I pick up and supply construction materials to install the items the client purchases for me to install. When *** asked for a detailed explanation of what the construction materials were, I listed plumbing supplies, drywall supplies, and included a Miscellaneous cost for unexpected supplies of $500. When the job is completed, I simply add up all the bills for materials purchased and add it to the final invoice. There is no "Miscellaneous Charge" on any of my bills, *
***
And don't forget, the issue he has is that 1/4 of a cup of water stays near the drain after emptying the tub. What possible health issues are there?
***
Final Consumer Response /(4200, 23, 2019/01/17) */
As *** noted it was 1/4 of a cup of water then. (Actually more than that). Now its around 3 cups of dirty water staying back. Even *** was surprised to see the amount of water staying back when I sent him this picture in Nov 2018
***The volume of water is increasing a little, week by week stretching to the middle of the tub. This is our real major concern.

I were very satisfied with the work done by *** and his crew from Ottawa Baths on renovating our main bathroom last month.
After a careful selection and an in-person meeting at the Ottawa Spring Home Show, ***'s company was the one we choose; we phoned and made an appointment for an estimate; the timing suited us and a written estimate was emailed to us with many details, within 24 hours.
The work commenced mid-August and that gave us time to purchase and order the necessary items for a complete renovation of our main bathroom. At all times, we communicated our findings with ***, who wrote (or phoned) back within 24 hours with further suggestions or additional details.
During the renovation itself, we observed that *** and his crew treated our property with much care and respect and cleaned up after each work day, as much as possible. One of us was on hand each day to answer questions or make certain decisions and it all went smoothly in the end.
***'s years of experience in the field was appreciated and we heeded his advice on many a point. The project was not only completed within the time frame but also within budget!
The bathroom (Project # 22) on the website of Ottawa Baths is the end product.
*** was at our entire disposal until the work got done, which might as well be his motto! Bravo to him and his crew for a job well done.
Thanks for the kind words, Sally. And thank you very much for the daily coffee and banana bread!
Awesome gentlemen. Easy to work with. Knowledgeable and efficient! Would highly recommend!
Thanks :)
It was a pleasure working for you, too.
We had asked *** to renovate our furnace room: it needed extensive work, e.g. adding additional insulation to all the walls; re-routing several pipes and ducts; installing a water tap; tiling the floor etc. etc. *** also installed a new door to our garage, to one of the bedrooms as well as installing & finishing baseboards and mouldings in the hallway. We are very happy and pleased with all the work completed. *** is very careful and meticulous in his work and takes pride in his workman ship. He was always open to discussion re changing / adjusting the project; because of his extensive experience in completing many renovation project *** has considerable knowledge of all things related to renovating - whether it is a bathroom, kitchen, hallway, removing / installing walls etc etc. We can highly recommend *** and his company for your renovation needs. He is a pleasure to work with and we are looking forward to hiring him again.
Thanks, Elke (and ***)
We will see you in July!
and *** did a fantastic job on our main bathroom! The quality of the workmanship is really great, and the job was completed within a reasonable amount of time. *** and *** were also careful to keep the rest of the house clean throughout the process, and cleaned up everything when the job was done. We will certainly call him again when it's time to do the master bathroom.
Thanks for the kind words, it was a pleasure working for you
We were looking for a good contractor to add a three piece bathroom in the basement where there wasn't even a rough-in. After obtaining several quotes, we settled on OttawaBaths.com. I am pleased to say that our new bathroom looks terrific and really puts other bathrooms in the house to shame. The project came in on scope, on time and on budget. *** and his helper were extremely skilled, always on time and never missing a day. We met every day to review the work as it progressed on schedule. We were particularly impressed by the fact that *** wouldn't take a dime from us until the job was completed to our full satisfaction and we are completed satisfied. We would recommend *** to those looking for an honest, trustworthy and professional contractor who takes pride in his work.
Thank, ***
