On 12/3/16 I had this company charge my credit card for services to be performed in the future. They were going to do some chimney work. However, on 12/6/16, I cancelled the service to be performed because of someone I know who can help me do the work. This cancellation came before any materials were fabricated and before any work was performed. Two days after I cancelled, the refund was processed. On the day that I cancelled I was warned of a "restocking fee". My issue with this is two fold. First, there was simply nothing to restock, no materials had been pulled to perform the service and no service had been performed. Secondly, the restock amount was not only not disclosed before my card was charged, the amount was not disclosed to me when I was warned of a restocking fee. The restocking fee for no services performed and no materials fabricated turned out to be 20% of the $661 that was charged (which was also slightly more than was quoted). As a result, only $539 was returned back to my card for no services performed and no materials pulled for the those services.
I intended to use this company for a chimney sweep in the near future, but after this stunt, that's definitely not going to happen. After this unfolded I began talking to people, making phone calls and doing my homework on the local people in this industry and I found that this is par for the course with this company and one other company that comes up in a Google search.
I would recommend shopping around for chimney contractors. I've learned through my shopping around that if your're going to hire someone, Chimney Tech is the only way to go.
