Poor Installation, Unresponsive and Untimely. Over Promise and Under Deliver.
In prepping my house to sell, I was on a short turn around time to get my work needed completed. 2/13/2020 Old Bay Handyman/Remodeling (OBH) sent Ben in Sales, out to provide an estimate and he said they'd be able to complete the job the week of February 17, 2020. I was sent a contract and asked to make a deposit on 2/18/20. I contacted their office and spoke to ***. I expressed the importance of having the work completed by that Friday, 2/21 and was assured they could make that happen. I told her if you cannot get it done in time, I will use another contractor. I was assured they would start Thursday, February 20, 2020 and that they'd be done by Friday or Saturday at the latest, so I made the deposit that same day. The next day, Wed., Feb. 19 *** calls and says one of the workers had an emergency and wouldn't be able to start Thursday but we were still on track and could begin Friday and they'd work through the weekend to meet my deadline. On Thursday, I get a call from Ben saying they could not start until Monday, thus making it impossible for me to get the job completed by someone else in my timeframe!! They started Monday, February 24th (when the job was to be complete) which was 4 days late and said it would take 2-3 days but it ultimately took 4 days.
Ben said they had a crew but only one person was sent to do my main level flooring. Mike, the Installer, was told he'd have help but no one ever came. He started Monday (2/24) and on the third day when he was not even halfway done I asked when he anticipated being done and he said "not before Friday"! Mike needed 5 days not 2-3 to complete the main level flooring.
I also had OBH replace all the carpet on my second floor on this same contract. I never saw them, was never told they were coming, (Mike was there when they came) and I was only informed after they had left that the job was done. I had my entire house painted before they came and they carelessly drug carpet up the steps, scratching up my railing, nicking the walls and with their handprints on the white walls. The carpet installed has ridges/humps in both bedrooms from it not being stretched correctly. The humps/ridges in the carpet was the only reason I was replacing the original carpet in one of the rooms and they installed the new carpet exactly the same way. I called and asked that it be fixed and was told they'd come that afternoon (Thursday, February 27th) or the next day. No one ever came back to fix these ridges/humps. No one ever called to say they were no longer coming, when it would be fixed or what the plan of correction would be. I called and left another message Friday evening when I got home and found out no one had been there (I work full-time during the day, an hour away). 7 hours later, I received a request for final payment yet the work is still incomplete.
I would like the humps/ridges in the carpet they installed fixed immediately. I cannot put my house on the market until this is resolved. I would also like a discount in final payment due to needing to pay to have touch ups done to repair the paint nicks, scratches and gouges they made to my freshly painted walls.
After reading my reviews and receiving my messages, I was contacted by the owner, ***. He was able to send the carpet crew to my house within an hour or so to stretch the carpet. The other flooring issues were repaired Monday. They offered to touch-up the paint issues their workers made but I had already paid the original painter to fix. Their customer service to resolve these issues was timely.
I contacted Mr. of Old Bay Handyman on November 4th 2019, regarding finishing up a full bath upstairs that was started but not completed. *** told me the job would take 4 days and Charged Five thousand, six hundred and fifty dollar (5,650.00). I have paid three thousand, four hundred and nine-one dollars, seven cents ($3,491.7). After I have paid $3,491, Mr *** asked me to pay him extra money for them to continue, I refused and told him that they have not done any tangible job , that all the did was to break down my walls. In the basement, they open the wall to the outside that enabled so many rats to get into my house. I have never have rodents in the house before. They broke up the walls in the basement ceiling, they left trash, dust every where in the basement. In the bathroom upstairs the used the existing equipment, they did not installed any equipment that made sense to me. I told Mr. that I have paid more that half of the total cost of the job that he needed to finish the job before getting another payment. Mr. refused and said he must have additional money to continue. I told him I will give him till January 16th 2020 to come and finish the job. At this time it was at the end of December as the men will show up for 10 minutes and leave and will not show up again for days. I kept calling Oldbay and Oldbay kept giving excuses and proponing the dates for the job. I have all the written evidences and evidence of payments. On January 18, 2020 I wrote to *** of OLdBay and explained the health hazards they exposed my family to as most of the kids started having respiratory problem.
I have 7 little kids from ages 3 to 12 years old and they have been having respiratory problems after OldBay broke open the walls without closing them back. I worried so much about the rats as the rats seem to be increasing in number despites that rat medications I have been using.
I want Oldbay to pay me for this inhuman treatments, for exposing the family to rats infestation.
Refund I want Old Bay to refund me all the money I have paid to them for I have been taking my kids to the doctors and paying medical bills. I have used so much money buying medications for the rat infestation without success, I need to contact an exterminator. I need the money to pay another contractor that I contacted this week to close up all the holes created by Old Bay Handyman
Customer did not pay the next draw to continue work. Our contract and terms and conditions clearly states that if there is a change request, the customer needs to pay before we go ahead with the rest of the work.
When we reach out to the customer to make a payment on the change request, her response was 'to believe her and she will make all the draw payments at the end of the job'.
We informed the customer that the work will continue only after the backlog of payments are cleared.
Few weeks later, she informed us that the contract was terminated and she does not want to go forward. She still owes us outstanding payments and we send them to collections at the end of 90 days.
