Review: My problem with NYU has recently become two-fold. First, and foremost, I am in desperate need of a root canal. At this point, I do not even know if the tooth can be saved. I went through, what I was told, were the proper procedures. I had an extreme pain in my tooth and went to the emergency room at NYU Dentistry. The student and a dentist looked at my tooth and said that it could be saved, but it needs a root canal immediately. The dentist himself, then personally walked me up to the Endodontics department and told the receptionist that I needed to be seen immediately. The receptionist replied that the Endodontics department had closed for the day and told me that I would need to return in the morning.
Next morning, I return to the endodontics department to a different receptionist. I explain the events of the prior day and was told that the other receptionist must be mistaken that I need to either have an appointment or a recommendation from one of the doctors at NYU. I explain again that I had visited the emergency room the day before and the dentist himself, not even a student, walked me up to the department to explain the urgency of the situation. This explanation was in vain.
I then reached out to NYU dentistry by phone and eventually got put in contact with a Ms. Yolanda L[redacted], the head of the Endodontics department. She then proceeded to explain to me the policies of their department, stating that I needed an appointment or a recommendation from an internal dentist at NYU to be seen. I explain everything again; the emergency room, the dentist walking me up himself, etc. Ms. L[redacted] then finally agrees that I can be seen that day. I am told there is quite a wait at the moment we are talking, but as long as I arrive by 4 P.M. I will be seen. This is great, except for the fact that when I arrive at 3:30P.M., the Endodontics department has again quit taking patients for the day. At this point, I am quite frustrated that the head of the department either does not know the hours of her own clinic. I ask the receptionist for Ms. L[redacted] but am told quite rudely that she is not available.
Therefore, my problem is that I need a root canal (which no telling how much longer I have until it needs to be pulled, a result I really do not want), have already paid money to this institution, and am still refused to be seen by anyone in the Endodontics department.
My second problem with this institution is less troubling and less constrained on time. I recently received a bill from NYU dentistry charging me for 4 x-rays. The student who took care of me on the day that I was in the emergency room stated that she would only need one x-ray (after-all, it was just an examination of one tooth). Therefore, I am either being charged wrong, was not made aware of the procedures going on, or NYU decided to charge me for every time the student messed up on the x-ray, which she did a few times. The last explanation seems to make the most since and I just do not understand why such a prestigious institution would charge other people for their student's mistakes.Desired Settlement: I would either like to be seen immediately by the Endodontics department or receive a $75 refund from the emergency room visit. My explanation for that is simple, the emergency room did nothing other than take one x-ray that they are charging me four times for and, subsequently, walked me up to the endodontics department to give an in-person recommendation that I be seen immediately. I have called other institutions and , Columbia dentistry, for example, says that in order to be seen immediately, I must pay to visit their emergency clinic who will then recommend me. Therefore, if I am given a refund for the no-service I received from NYU, I can take the money that I spent and go elsewhere to actually receive the healthcare that I need.
Also, I would like an explanation from the business as to why I am being charged for 4 x-rays when I was told I only was having one taken.
