I hired Northtown cleaners to dry clean and box my daughters wedding dress, paying $225 in advance for the service. However, I told them we wished to view the dress after it was cleaned but before it was boxed. After they called to state the dressed was ready to be boxed, we went to see the dress, only to discover the silk was destroyed and the dress was torn under the armpits. The cleaner denies any fault and refuses to make compensation or even return the $225, stating that the dress had been cleaned (overlooking the fact the dress was destroyed.
My name is ***, the *** of Northtown Cleaners. The complaint *** brought in her daughters wedding dress to my depot in Trenton. Before I was to clean the dress I noticed beads and sequins on the dress so I had my lady at the Trenton store, get a verbal ***s risk before I continued cleaning. It had under arm stains and a spill in the front, I spotted the areas then cleaned it. The label said to DRY CLEAN ONLY in large letters, so I did. After the cleaning we hung it to air, then we pressed it up. The invoice said to call the customer before boxing. The material seemed limp so we repressed it again. There was no change. When the Daughter of *** came to see the dress she notice the same thing, how limp it was, the only thing my *** and I could think of is the sizing came out in the cleaning when I cleaned it. Then her Mother and Father came to see it, they were not happy either. First *** wanted some of her money back and I agreed, after she took it with her she called back and wanted a full refund , I agreed of an in store credit of the full amount. After that she wanted the full amount of the purchase price, cost of cleaning plus damages to repair the dress, that's when she said she was getting a lawyer, so I had to get my lawyer involved with a letter. I had agreed to refund the full amount of the $225.

I am rejecting this response because:
I have always wanted a full refund because the dress is no longer wearable. I paid for a service to which Northtown cleaners web site clearly stated they would take care and the dress would not be damaged. The dress was shrunk and integrity of the silk was ruined, rips under the arms and boning punctured thru the dress. It can never be repaired thus never worn again. The special heirloom dress my daughter purchased was ruined by someone who clearly told us the dress will not be damaged. I fully expected some of the jewels to come off I was not expecting a dress that can never be worn again. A store credit offer was not acceptable as we have lost our trust in her service. We are looking for some compensation for our loss and Northtown refused insisting nothing was done wrong and clearly an error was made,all be it, unintentionally, therefore the business should compensate for some of the loss. We will accept $500 which we had requested back when this all happened in January 2020. When that was declined. We started preparing for small claims proceedings with the advice of a lawyer. The COVID happened and it’s now at a standstill. If Northtown agrees to $500. We will cancel the small claims paperwork and this conflict will be over.
