My husband and I lived in these apartments for two years. We had a severe mice problem. The mice ate the cabinets and the carpets. Their only solution was putting down glue traps. After moving out, I completed our walk through with *** informed us that the only thing that would come out of our deposit would be partial painting, which was $68, oven cleaning - $45, and drip pans - $28. I received an email this morning stating that they have emailed us and called us regarding our payment of $306. They took our complete deposit for carpet replacement.

In response to the claim made by *** regarding unit 2906.
She and her husband, *** moved in to unit #2906 on 3/10/14 and moved out on 01/09/2019.
When a resident gives us a notice to vacate, we provide them with an estimate of charges such as prorated final rent, renter’s insurance if they have it with us, final water/garbage and electric transfer fee. Oher charges like carpet cleaning are also included in the notice to vacate packet but these charges are estimates, and not considered final charges until we have our carpet cleaning company come out and detect if there is any pet urine or other extraneous issues. This is also explained to the residents- Especially if there are pets in the unit.
We also request for the residents to schedule a final walk once unit is empty. My assistant *** did this walk with *** on their last day. He was very clear on the charges and did let her know that because of the pets we will have the carpet cleaning company come and give us an estimate on their carpet, due to the strong pet smell. He wasn’t sure if it needed replacement or if just needed pet treatment and cleaning, which she responded by saying “let us know and it will be ok”.
We had our carpet cleaning company come to inspect the carpet. Unfortunately, there was no treatment possible due to the heavy smell and urine damage to the carpet, padding and floor- therefore, the carpet had to be replaced.
The cost for the carpet and padding replacement plus to pet seal the floor is $1451.24. However, we take in consideration the time residents live in the unit. We initially charged $1161.00 (80% of the cost). But after reviewing the charges my assistant had made, I took into consideration the carpet was not brand new at move in time and I adjusted off an additional $106.85 making the carpet replacement cost to them $1054.15.
I am including with this email the move out statement showing you all the charges and the credit.

I am rejecting this response because:*** never made this statement. He told us that everything looked good and that we should be getting $750 in a check. *** never even informed us of the additional charges. I never said "just let us know and it will be ok." If this business can lie through their teeth like this, they deserve to be shut down. I've talked with plenty of tenants that have lived there and battled with mice problem. My next course of action is contacting the health department. No one should have to live with the amount of mice these apartments have. I have time stamped pictures of every single mouse that was caught as well as the map coordinates in which they were caught. We also received an e-mail from *** stating they had been trying to contact, left e-mails and voicemails and since we weren't responding we had 10 days to pay before it went to collections. I forwarded all phone records to my attorney and he stated that they couldn't send us to collections since we were not given prior notice regardless of ***'s lies of "e-mails and voicemails left."

I am unable to reach anyone to complete the cancellation of my lease. I have called, emailed, and gone to the leasing office without success.
