In March of 2019 I was looking to contract a videographer to shoot a speaking engagement for me in Atlanta. I mailed the deposit check of $340.31 on/about March 19, 2019. The owner, Sol Morales, became belligerent that I mailed a check instead of using his online bill pay platform. When I asked where I sent the check, I gave him the address that was listed on his website, to which he replied, "I haven't been at that address in over a year." In an email he said that he did not believe I actually mailed a check and was "fooling" him and accused me of being a "closet racist."
Fast forward to Monday Aug 10, 2020. I see a check processed in my bank account that was significantly out of sequence. It was the original check from 17 months ago! I called Sol that same day, and he said he had just received a FedEx of old mail from that previous address, and he would look into what happened as he couldn't be sure we did not work together. I gave him until today, Aug 13 and called back. He told me he hadn't had time to look into it yet, and proceeded to lecture me about how "business works". I related that I have been in business for 20 years, and with a few key strokes can see all my invoices and those with whom I have done business. At that he told me I was expecting too much, that he had more important things to attend to and hung up on me.
I have my bank looking into how such an outdated check could possibly have been cashed by any legitimate bank, however this man's business practices are clearly not legitimate.
