New Leaf installed two patio doors for us. We could not open or close the doors. Upon several contractors that have seen what New Leaf did, it was found they installed the doors onto rotted wood. The contractors also found a piece of the door that was to be taken off upon completing the install. I have saved that such piece. We still have trouble with one door to get it open. We also paid in full immediately upon completion without checking on them as we were out of town but trusted Jason. We would like this to be fixed correctly or some of our money refunded to be able to fix this mess.
We were hired to install patio doors for this homeowner in early May. During the installation process, we discovered rotten wood. We took the necessary steps to insure a proper installation (using additional lumber, waterproofing spray foam, etc and labor) and called the owner and left a voicemail stating what we had done. The homeowner did not return our phone call. We have our phone call documented through our cell phone records.A month after the job was completed (mid-June), they had a friend call on their behalf to state that their flooring couldn't be installed due to a rotten subfloor, and angrily stated that the flooring installer could not repair the subfloor, and that we should not have installed the patio doors. He stated that it was our responsibility to "make this right." We explained to this friend, and then again directly to the homeowner, the additional work that we had completed to properly install the doors and that they should not need to be removed to install the flooring. We also sent this information in an email in which I specifically asked if there was a problem with the doors. The homeowner then asked us for an estimate on replacing the subfloor so that their flooring could be installed. Here is a quote from their email: "I left a message yesterday asking to be put on list so that we could get this taken care of. We know it was not included in the work you did and will pay you but need it fixed. All we really want is someone to fix the sub floor so flooring can be finished. We would hire someone else but if they have to remove the doors then we will have to go to court so thought if you could fix it we could avoid that." The homeowner's complaint was not that the doors did not work properly, but that they would need to be removed to fix the subfloor so their flooring could be installed. We chose to not engage in a new contract to fix the subfloor due to the tone used by both the homeowner and the friend they chose to have call on their behalf. We do address warranty issues that occur within one year on products that we install; however, this was not presented as a warranty issue, but as a problem with the subfloor that needed to be replaced for their flooring to be completed. This is the first door operation issue that we have heard of, and we would be glad to handle it as a part of our warranty program.Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to respond. We will be happy to supply all supporting documentation upon request.
