I am writing at the suggestion of friend that I file a complaint against [redacted]
[redacted] for the work he did on my home which began on November 20, 2014. I
hired [redacted] to treat my home for termites. I have used [redacted] in the past
and trusted his work. However, it became clear to me that he was hustling me
for "other" work as the months went by. He initially treated my home
November 20, 2014 and we agreed on the price of $650 to treat and then $150 a
year on contract. ([redacted]). I had to have him come back
on February 23, 2015 to retreat the house because the termites were swarming.
He asked for an additional $200 for chemicals.
[redacted] told me on a couple of occasions that I needed to enclose
the roof of the patio because that was where the termites were coming in. So,
when he came the second time (2/23/15), I had him give me an estimate to
enclose the patio with aluminum siding. On April 16, 2015, I paid him $1,000 to
put aluminum siding all the way around the patio roof and put new brown
aluminum gutters. He got his brother to help him and the job turned out pretty
good. However, the gutters appeared to be left over pieces from a previous job
and leaked in the same exact place as the old ones and were not covered to
keep debris out. I asked on several occasions to fix the leak and cover the
gutters. It never happened.
After he finished the job for the aluminum, I asked for an estimate on
getting new windows with screens installed on the patio and he gave me a quote
of $2,800. So, on April 29, 2015, I wrote him a check for $2,000 to purchase the
necessary items to replace the windows on my patio, including exterior siding
and interior finishing, caulking and painting. Several weeks went by and then
finally when he got started, he delivered "used" and "new" windows - some white

and some brown all with different sizes to insert into the big spaces that where
being torn out. He realized that what he had was not the best option, so he sent
me a text with pictures of windows he found a Lowe's that would work. The only
problem was that he ran out of money and didn't have the money to purchase
the new windows. He asked me for more money, so I gave him another check
for $500 to buy them. Unbeknownest to me, he put windows that go up and
down sideways in the wooden frames and used pieces and parts of lumber that
he had and purchased to enclose them. He put up used or left over vinyl on the
exterior and did not do anything to the interior, except for one window.
He left the old windows that he brought to my home initially on the grass
for two months, which killed the grass and has just started to grow back. After
he kept asking me for $100 here and a $100 there, I told him that he was not
getting another dime out of me before this job was done. I ended up paying him
$3,500 for the patio enclosure and windows, not counting $200 in cash for caulk
that he started, but did not finish. He caulked one window and some interior
cracks. It was only after he was just about done that he told me that he did not
have a license to do the carpentry work. He gathered his equipment and I never
heard back from him. I ended up having to caulk the entire patio except for one
window and painting the entire patio myself inside and out.
He never called when it was time to retreat my home under the contact
and frankly I was glad to be rid of him. Because the termites are back or never
left because he did not treat the affected areas. He only treated the exterior of
the house and not where they were - in the window frame and ceiling of my
bathroom and laundry room. He just sprayed around the house foundation.
As you can see from the attached letter, he worked for a company that I
know and when he was questioned about what he did to me, he told them that
he was not aware of any problem. So, I wrote him and gave him official notice of
just how unhappy I was and that I felt that I was taken advantage of because of
what was going on in my life at the time - my husband had dementia and then
died 02/17/2015.
I felt hustled and that seems to be what he does. He will get in under the
termite contract and try to get extra or "other" work on the side for this or that.
