On 12-26-14 Nelcon was called to tow a [redacted] that was a stolen vehicle and the State Police had recovered, our driver loaded the vehicle on the flatbed and towed it to our garage on 12-27-14 the owner of the vehicle came down to retrieve his vehicle, he paid the towing and storage...
fees and was escorted to his vehicle in our lot, he attempted to start his vehicle and it would not start, one of our employees looked at the vehicle and said it seemed to be a bad starter. He stated he did not have the money to have the vehicle towed out and asked if there was anything we could do to help him, he was instructed to call the manager on Monday, as the manager was off, and was informed there would be accruing storage charges for every day the vehicle was there. On Monday he called into our dispatch and the message was relayed to me to call him. I called him and he explained the situation to me and began blaming us for his starter being bad. I explained to him, that it was an older vehicle and in no way would towing the vehicle damage his starter. He was asking us to replace his starter for him and I explained it would need to be towed to our North Haven garage because we only do towing at our Meriden location, no repairs. He stated he did not have money for repairs and wanted us to fix the vehicle for him. I explained numerous times that it was not our fault that the starter was faulty, and it wasn't even definite that was the problem that was an educated guess by our employee, but he should have a mechanic look at it. he stated he was on his way to a funeral and would call us back. He never called back and the vehicle remained in our storage yard accruing daily storage fees. On 1-5-15 , he called me back and asked if there was anything we could do to help him, I informed him once again, that it was not our fault the vehicle would not start and also explained with the vehicle being stolen, it may have been tampered with by the people who stole it. I told him as a good faith gesture I would wave the storage charges for the first week, which would cover all of his accruing charges up until Saturday 1-3-15, but that was the best I could do. he said he would not have money to get the vehicle out until Friday 1-16-15. He was aggravated with me and hung up. On Tuesday night 1-6-15 he came to our location and wanted to pick the vehicle up, one of my employees called me to see if I had made arrangements with him, I instructed them that I had waved the first week of storage, but at that point his balance would be $72 plus tax. My employee informed him and he said he only had $50.00 on him, I told him to collect the $50.00 from him and let him have his vehicle. He paid the $50.00 and had his vehicle towed out. I feel we were more than fair with him, as it was not any of our doing that his vehicle would not start, we waved approximately $200 in storage fees for him and let him have his vehicle.[redacted]
