National Board for Professional Teaching Standards

Review: The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards falsely represented their requirements to obtain certification. When I applied and made my payment for this certification in August, NBPTS required that candidates copy all student work and submit it through the mail. On February 1st, NBPTS sent a letter offering the option to submit the portflios through E-portfolio rather then a mailed in portfolio. Then on February 15th, NBPTS sent a letter requiring candidates to submit their portfolio through E-portfolio. Since I had submitted my portfolio in December, I did not believe that that letter applied to me. Finally, I called yesterday to see if my portfolio was received and I was informed that I HAD to resubmit mine as an E-portfolio. They did not even track or scan my mailed in portfolio, which was submitted before NBPTS changed the requirements. This is a year long process that is time consuming. It is both unfair and unjust to falsely advertise the requirements and to punish a person for submitting their work early.Desired Settlement: I am requesting that NBPTS score my portfolio that I sent in rather then require me to submit an E-portfolio. I justify this request because my portfolio was submitted before the changes were made. Also, these changes are unfair because it expects candidates to redo the work that they have already completed.
