I want to start by saying that initially had an excellent experience with Nate Carney's Smart Services last summer when our AC unit was having issues in the extreme heat. Nate came and fixed everything and we were very happy with his service. When Nate told me that his company offered annual maintenance on HVAC units twice a year for $299, I called and set up an appointment for October.
After having someone from Nate Carney's Smart Services come and maintenance our two HVAC units (one in the basement, one on the roof) on the evening October 14, 2019, we discovered that the unit on the roof was no longer working. I called to have them come and look at the unit again and was told by a new technician--David--that the fan motor was broken. The unit is only 1.5 years old, and it seemed strange that it was broken. He agreed and said he thought it should still be under warranty. He spent the next week trying to locate the part with local vendors but couldn't. I stopped hearing from the company at that point.
In the meantime, I got in touch with the original company in Maryland that installed the HVAC system. They have had to replace the fan motor, control board, and are now waiting to have the compressor (which is back-ordered 8-10 weeks) replaced. We have paid over $1,000 in labor costs (luckily the parts are still under warranty), and have had no heat upstairs all winter.
I called Nate Carney's Smart Services repeatedly but only was able to connect with the office manager once. He offered to reimburse us for the $366 check we paid for maintenance and share our complaint with Nate. Not only were we never reimbursed, but Nate never followed up. I have a report from our other vendor, who is fixing the unit, that this was human error, and that the parts would not just stop working on a new unit. The officer manager at Smart Services would not return my calls, but did answer a message via Yelp to say that Nate says he is not at fault.
