Back in May I met with a customer to look at her tree that she wanted removed.Customer requested an estimate to have a tree in her back yard be removed, stump grinded, and cleaned up(This is a task that we do on a daily basis and have a lot of happy and repeat customers.)I assessed the job, a large mature Douglas fir that needed to be climbed and takendown in piecesmen trucks, chipper and a stump grinderMy original Estimate wasfor $The customer stated that was way more than she has paid in the past, that shenormally pays around $Itold her that as a Licensed and Insured company that wecould not compete with that price on a tree of that sizeI pay my guys very well and I carryworker's compensation not to mention all the other cost that go into a job like thisIadvised her that if the other company worked at that price and was insured that she shouldstay with themI totally understood wanting a bargain price(she said that she didn't wantto have to eat crow and have them back) looking back on it, one can only assume that shehad a dispute with them as well. She asked if there was any way I could lower the price and that she really wanted touse my companyI explained that we do excellent clean up and take all necessaryprecautions not to damage any propertyThis takes time and costs more but that is why wehave so many repeat customersCustomer said: Dont worry about the lawn I am having it all replacedand I will clean up all the small stuffIf we just cut the tree down and hauled away the big heavy stuff she would do the rakingI re assesed the job and re wrote theestimate for $I wrote on the paper work remove tree, chip big limbs and haul awaywood, NO RAKING! I also wrote that the lawn was being replaced so it a crash anddash jobBefore giving the estimate sheet to her I went over it again just to be clear that itwas not going to be a professional clean up.Customer said she was fine with doing the rakingShe just wanted the cheapestprice possibleI wanted to schedule the job for during the week, but customer wanted to bepresent, so I agreed to move some things around and put a crew together for Sunday whichwas the day she was availableI did have a trainee do the climbing, he had lots of room to work with, so I felt it wasa good tree for him to work onI have training days at our shop that make sure that myemployees are competent to remove a tree before I ever let them climb a tree on someoneelse's propertyI was there the whole time to make sure he was safe and everythingthat he has been trained to doDuring the job the customer asked to have a second stump grinded and that shewanted the cheapest price possibleI said that grinding the stump down just below dirtgrade so it could be covered with dirt would be cheaper than grinding wholestump, she said that would be fineI said that would be $And she agreedAfter grindingthe stump down, I had her look at the stump and she said that's fineDuring the job the customer had some big heavy rocks that she wanted movedacross the yard, we believe in helping people, so I had my guys use the log dolly and movethem for her free of chargeCustomer also asked it we could cut some slabs of wood to aparticular thickness so she could use them in her landscape also free of charge. We had all the wood loaded, limbs chipped and tools put awayI met with thecustomer and she was upset and couldn't believe that we were not going to rake the smalldebris(there was only raking left, twigs that were half an inch and smaller and sawdust) Ireferred back to what we had ageed on and what was written on the paperworkStillshe was upset, so to keep the peace I had my guys eome back and rake the small debris andcarry them out in garbage cans even though it was not part of the jobAfter raking andloading the debris, I collected the payment and told her to have a good day.A week later customer left me several threatening messagesI did return her call 3times and she didn't answerI left her a calm and polite message saying I was not ignoringher just every time she called my phone was in the truck and I was workingWe finallyconnected and I tried explaining to her that I did what we had agreed upon and if we wereto return to do more it would be an additional cost(I have talked to other local treeservices and they confurred that they would do the smne) I am a man of my word and dideverything that I said we would do, plus someI am sorry that the customer is upset andfeels the way that she does, I did what we agreed on plus did additional work free of charge Sincerely, - [redacted] ***

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to respond to Mr *** letter
I would first like to bring to your attention that it seems Lee took the time to submit to you a very creative letterHowever, he has bluntly lied about what transpired between us and what his obligations were to me
He is correct however about the final price I was to payBut it was NOT because I would have to eat crow to call the company that has previously removed several other trees from my propertyAnd yes at a lesser cost with superb workmanship from all phases of the removal of my treesHe was out of the country for a few month doing missionary work and therefore I had no other choice to seek out another tree removal companyEven knowing I would not get the same cost effective deal I was getting from the company I usually useFurther, the other company is also Licensed & Bonded as wellI also want to point out that he has removed the same size tree that Mountain View did from start to final clean up within 5-hours each time here
Yes I did want to be here while my tree was being removed from my propertyMost homeowner do The week days I was available Lee was notHe asked if he could come on that Sunday and I agreedAt no time did he inform me that he was going to be bringing a trainee that would turn into over hours of my day off having to stand watch as this trainee from all aspects of the job was unassured of himself and what he was doingThe evidence is in the length of the pieces he dropped all over my backyard leaving deep gouges in the grassy areas and from his uneasiness as he climbed higher up the treeWhereas professional tree services are trained to cut smaller and drop closest to the base of the treeI did tell Lee that I had planned to my back yard lawn but Not have to pay to bring in more dirt to fill the many areas that were damages as a result of him using my job as a training site without my knowledge!
As for clean up after the tree was dropped, the agreed arrangement was that I would do the detailed clean upWhat Mr E*** is talking about that they had to haul out garbage can of limbs WAS part of their job as agreed uponHe was outright taking advantage of me in leaving my yard in a disgraceful mannerThey made absolutely no effort to even pick up or even clean up the trail of tree parts from the back yard to the front yard including my driveway that is in length apx 200’ in distant that took me several hours to clean upThat is not even including the mess they left me in the back yard where the tree was removed
As for the rock they movedLet me make myself very clearLee said that this rock needed to be moved and he knows I am a single older womenI asked if they could move it and he asked where do you want itThey rolled it apx 20’ from where it wasEnd of story
The addition stump I asked if he could grind down he said Quote, since he charged me $for the one from the tree they removed and this was from a small maple tree he said I’ll only charge you $I agreedNot once did he ask me if I was satisfied with the amount he grinded downIt was the next day while I was still doing clean up I had noticed so much of the roots still there
I did call Lee on a number of occasionsAnd, it is true that he did not take my callsI was not surprised as our working relationship ended on a bad noteLet me breifly explain whyHe too did Not expect to be here as long as it turned out to beIt was a very hot day and his workers were exhausted at bestWhen I saw that they were packing up to leave and were leaving me with what would take me days and at a minum and at least truck loads to the dump of tree partsI said to Lee that I agreed to do final detail clean up and that what you are leaving me is not right or fair and what we agreed to.
Not once or ever did I leave any nasty message on his phone or would I to ANYONE! I am not a person that would do that to anyone under any circunstansums
I could, but am not going after Mountian View Tree Service for the damage they did to my propertyWhich would be much more than the $job I paid for and did not get what I paid for with the stump grinding
If MrE*** is a man of his word as he professes to beAnd a company that he claims has happy clients with repeat business It would seem that he would stand by his word and do the right thing and come back and grind down my tree stump the right way with no hesitation
Instead when he finally did get back with me he tried to make his substandard work about me saying I was fine with it when I never said as muchBut Never did he mention he would have to charge me to come back outThat’s what he wants you to believe
At this point, because it has gotten to this point all I want from Mountain View Tree Service now is a refund of my $so I can hire someone else to do it rightIf he refuses to reimburse me I will be taking him and his company to small claims for collection

cleaned up. (This is a task that we do on a daily basis and have a lot of happy

large mature Douglas fir that needed to be climbed and takendown in pieces. 3 men 2 trucks, chipper and a stump grinder. My original Estimate wasfor $975 . The customer stated that was way more than she has paid in the past, that shenormally pays around $350. I. told her that as a Licensed and Insured company that wecould not compete with that price on a tree of that size. I pay my guys very well and I carryworker's compensation not to mention all the other cost that go into a job like this. Iadvised her that if the other company worked at that price and was insured that she shouldstay with them. I totally understood wanting a bargain price. (she said that she didn't wantto have to eat crow and have them back) looking back on it, one can only assume that shehad a dispute with them as well. She asked if there was any way I could lower the price and that she really wanted touse my company. I explained that we do excellent clean up and take all necessaryprecautions not to damage any property. This takes time and costs more but that is why wehave so many repeat customers. Customer said: Dont worry about the lawn I am having it all replacedand I will clean up all the small stuff. If we just cut the tree down and hauled away the big heavy stuff she would do the raking. I re assesed the job and re wrote theestimate for $650 .. I wrote on the paper work remove tree, chip big limbs and haul awaywood, NO RAKING! I also wrote that the lawn was being replaced so it a crash anddash job. Before giving the estimate sheet to her I went over it again just to be clear that itwas not going to be a professional clean up.Customer said she was fine with doing the raking. She just wanted the cheapestprice possible. I wanted to schedule the job for during the week, but customer wanted to bepresent, so I agreed to move some things around and put a crew together for Sunday whichwas the day she was available. I did have a trainee do the climbing, he had lots of room to work with, so I felt it wasa good tree for him to work on. I have training days at our shop that make sure that myemployees are competent to remove a tree before I ever let them climb a tree on someoneelse's property. I was there the whole time to make sure he was safe and everythingthat he has been trained to do. During the job the customer asked to have a second stump grinded and that shewanted the cheapest price possible. I said that grinding the stump down just below dirtgrade so it could be covered with dirt would be cheaper than grinding wholestump, she said that would be fine. I said that would be $50. And she agreed. After grindingthe stump down, I had her look at the stump and she said that's fine. During the job the customer had some big heavy rocks that she wanted movedacross the yard, we believe in helping people, so I had my guys use the log dolly and movethem for her free of charge. Customer also asked it we could cut some slabs of wood to aparticular thickness so she could use them in her landscape also free of charge. We had all the wood loaded, limbs chipped and tools put away. I met with thecustomer and she was upset and couldn't believe that we were not going to rake the smalldebris. (there was only raking left, twigs that were half an inch and smaller and sawdust) Ireferred back to what we had ageed on and what was written on the paperwork. Stillshe was upset, so to keep the peace I had my guys eome back and rake the small debris andcarry them out in garbage cans even though it was not part of the job. After raking andloading the debris, I collected the payment and told her to have a good day.A week later customer left me several threatening messages. I did return her call 3times and she didn't answer. I left her a calm and polite message saying I was not ignoringher just every time she called my phone was in the truck and I was working. We finallyconnected and I tried explaining to her that I did what we had agreed upon and if we wereto return to do more it would be an additional cost. (I have talked to 2 other local treeservices and they confurred that they would do the smne) I am a man of my word and dideverything that I said we would do, plus some. I am sorry that the customer is upset andfeels the way that she does, I did what we agreed on plus did additional work free of charge.
