Motor Rite Inc Reviews (1)

The listed items on invoice failed to be repaired. I asked about warranty prior to picking up, and they said they stand behind their work.I purchased a vehicle from [redacted]. The vehicle had just had transmission work performed at Motor Rite. The vehicle was still in Motor Rites possession. I personally paid Motor Rite the full invoice amount. [redacted] had taken the vehicle in for the repair, but I met with and spoke with [redacted] at Motor Rite prior to paying for the repairs to insure that if I paid, then they would warranty the work for me, [redacted] assured me that they stand behind their work and any issues let them know. the bill was slightly over $1500, and invoice items were new transmission housing, seals, gaskets, labor. Once I took possession of vehicle, it was placed on a flat bed trailer and taken back to Virginia Beach where my mechanics looked over vehicle. 0 miles were put on vehicle under my care, other than placing it on and off the flat bed trailer. The mechanics found that the transmission housing was cracked, which they said can come from 1 of 2 possible reasons. The transmission likely was dropped during installation, or the bolts were not installed to manufacturers specifications resulting in too much pressure causing stress fractures and cracks to the housing. The transmission is also leaking from multiple locations as the seals were apparently also not installed properly. I called and spoke with [redacted] and [redacted] over the weekend. [redacted] said that there isn't anything they can do about the issue other than maybe offer $150 towards getting the problem resolved. The shop is taking no responsibility for the improper job performed. I was also given an invoice from [redacted], where this same shop had performed brake work. [redacted] said the vehicle had never really stopped very well. I also had my mechanics look at this. While the components appeared to have been installed properly, they had no been adjusted at all. The brakes need to be adjusted to the proper position, so when brake pedal is used, it allows the brakes to push out and engage the brake drum to effectively cause friction and slow the vehicle. These pads were horribly out of adjustment. The master cylinder was also missing several gaskets which was causing and air leak, which was causing the brakes to also not be supplied with proper pressure. I mention this as to further indicate the subpar quality of work being performed.on 10/20/2014 - [redacted] from motor rite called and said he would refund the $400 in parts - I asked that why would be not also refund the labor, which was clearly inadequately performed. he said his labor is perfect. I asked why were all the seals leaking. he said it was a used part. I said this isn't an acceptable answer, if it left his shop, it should not have left broken. he said again, it was a used part. I advised that I am going to have to have the transmission removed, a new housing installed, and all new seals installed, which I just paid his company to do. he said that is not his problem because they were used parts. I told [redacted] I would be willing to meet him halfway and accept 750, however [redacted] said he would not do this. In turn, due to non-compliance I am asking for a full refund, as the repairs were completely and totally inadequate. The work was sub-par, the transmission is broken and has 0 miles on it since leaving his shop. I do not trust that the work will be done correctly and will need a full refund to have the work performed properly.Desired SettlementI would like a qualified transmission shop to fix what Motor Rite was unable to repair. I would like the job to be refunded fully as the work was unacceptable.Business Response This is the first time we have received this complaint through Revdex.com. We have responded to this complaint dated 17 Nov 2014. Pursuant to Motor Rite, Inc. books and records [redacted] was the previous owner of the [redacted]. The [redacted] was towed to our shop for examination on February 18, 2014. We determined the transmission housing was cracked and the transmission bell housing was in pieces. We suggested to Mr [redacted] that he needed a new transmission & bell housing installed. He did not have the funds at that time for a new transmission & housing and requested Motor Rite repair the transmission as least expensive way possible, since he was intending to sell the vehicle. We completed the following repairs. 1. replaced bell housing 2. replaced the transmission housing 3. Used vehicles internal transmission parts in the used housing 4. Installed a new transmission pump 5. Installed a new transmission kit 6. Installed a new spline (input shaft, strainer, seal and pan gasket. Motor Rite, Inc. removed the inner parts from the old transmission and used the vehicle's old parts in the transmission housing. Because the parts were used and not new, the parts were not covered under warranty. Mr [redacted] was informed of this prior to the repair being done. On September 11, 2014 Motor Rite, Inc. completed the repairs and submitted an invoice in the amount of 1525.36 to Mr. [redacted]. Motor Rite road tested the vehicle and confirmed no evidence of leaks or damage existed. We allowed Mr [redacted] to pick up the vehicle to have cleaned and to show to potential buyers. Mr. [redacted] drove the vehicle for two weeks and never mentioned any problems or issues reported to Motor Rite, Inc. Mr. [redacted] returned the vehicle to Motor Rite, Inc. to store the vehicle until the invoice was paid. On October 10, 2014 Mr [redacted] contacted Motor Rite, Inc. inquiring about the condition of the vehicle, as he was considering purchasing the vehicle from Mr. [redacted]. We infirmed Mr. [redacted] about the prior condition of the vehicle. On this date Mr [redacted] and Mr. [redacted] met at Motor Rite, Inc. to look at the vehicle. Mr [redacted] was impressed with the [redacted] and paid the outstanding balance for the vehicle's repairs. On October 18, 2014 [redacted] with Motor Rite, Inc. received a call from Mr [redacted] stating the transmission was leaking and one bolt was broken. [redacted] reminded Mr [redacted] of the nature of the repairs and told him that [redacted] would contact him concerning the matter.[redacted] contacted Mr [redacted] and explained to him the parts for the transmission were used, and therefore were not covered under warranty. In good faith effort to resolve this matte, [redacted] offered to reimburse Mr. [redacted] $400.00. Mr. [redacted] countered with $750.00. Motor Rite, Inc. offered several other options to resolve Mr. [redacted]'s concerns. Mr [redacted] never elected to take advantage of the generous options. Instead, Mr. [redacted] asked motor Rite, Inc. to not contact him again until Motor Rite, Inc. was prepared to provide a reimbursement in full for the repair. We have not contacted Mr. [redacted].
