Review: I recently closed my IRA account with Morgan Stanley Financial Services in Wilmington, Delaware and moved my funds to another financial services provider. All of my funds were transferred out on 2/20/2013. On 2/14/2013, as my fund transfer process began, I was charged a $75 annual maintenance fee. Searching back through my records, I realized that I had paid a $75 annual maintenance fee on 9/18/2012. Further research revealed that I paid an annual maintenance fee on 9/16/2011, 9/16/2010, 9/16/2009 and so forth going back until 2006. Therefore, it is established that my annual maintenance fee was paid yearly in the month of September. Therefore, my argument is why upon closing my account was I charged a full years annual maintenance fee when I had only utilized Morgan Stanley's services for 5 months (September 2012 through February 2013)? I spoke with customer service sometime in March or April and they did not have an answer. They then forwarded me to my financial advisor who said that proration of service did not exist. I searched my documentation to find information regarding account closures and annual maintenance fees but could not find any information regarding how these matters are handled.Desired Settlement: Ultimately, my desired settlement is a refund of a portion of the $75 maintenance fee that I never used (7 months of service). I am requesting that the annual maintenance fee that I paid on 2/14/2013 be prorated for the months that I was a customer of Morgan Stanley.
