September 19, 2016Revdex.comLa Posada DriveAustin, Texas 78752Ref: Customer Complaint ID # [redacted] My response to the above referenced customer complaint, received on September 19, 2016, is as follows: Around the date of the complaint, the client contacted me about doing some new work on a caseI informed him that I was retiring from the practice of law in December 2015, and didn't want to get involved, in his case, based on what I judged, had to be doneI told him to call the [redacted] Bar Association Lawyer Referral service for a another lawyer to help him on the caseApparently the client did not understand what I told him or doesn't hear very well.The cases I had done in the past for this client, mainly real estate involved cases such as sales, had all been completed and closed by meAlso, after each case was completed the client and his wife, received a packet of all original documents they had given me to start the case, if any, and also of all documents I prepared for them, on the case, to complete the caseI only kept copies of the documents I worked with or preparedIf I remember correctly, most if not all, of the cases, I worked for this client required document preparation on sale of real propertyOther cases involved possible foreclosure cases, where the people who bought property from this client, did not pay the sales price as called for by the real estate contract entered into and this client wanted me to put pressure on the other party to pay up, according to the contractIf that is the case now, any lawyer that does real estate work, could start the case with the documents the client should haveThat's what I did when I worked any case for this clientIt's usually what any lawyer does when they start a new caseIf the client lost any of the documents I gave him, which is probably the case here, I would be happy to help himIf I have his old file, I would make copies of each file he requests, provided he pays for my time, all copying expenses, and mailing expenses, prior to doing any work of this kind for the client.Finally, I had no other attorney take over any of my file, worked for many clientsLuckily, I completed all cases I had opened prior to my retirementI practiced law as a sole practitioner for years and had no other lawyer to take over my practice.Respectfully, [redacted] Attorney at Law
