This is in response to Mr*** ***’s complaint about purchasing a single bag of Royal Oak charcoal at our Roseau Minnesota Super One Foods store. Customer *** correctly states that Super One Foods is selling Royal Oak charcoal marked with “Sold As Twin Pack 2-LB BAGS
Not to be sold individually.” For retail marketing purposes, Super One Foods splits the plastic wrapped twin pack charcoal bags it purchases from its wholesaler and then sells the product as single pound bag for a temporarily discounted price. The store shelf tag containing the price of this product is clearly marked “Royal Oak Charcoal pounds” with a sale price of $The store shelf tag also states the store’s regular price ($6.99) and says “SAVE $1.04.” The customer receives pounds of charcoal for $just as stated on the shelf signManufacturers label some product this way to discourage retailers from splitting special-offer multipacks that are discounted by the manufacturer. Super One Foods occasionally splits multi-packs and sells the product it purchases as individual items. Super One Foods passes savings from its large wholesale purchases of multi-pack product on to the customer in the form of reduced retail pricing. This method of sale also helps the customer because the customer doesn’t have to buy multiples of an item to receive a product price discount if they only want one itemWe attempted to contact Mr*** directly several times but the cell phone number listed in his complaint has been disconnected and he has not responded email contact
