Are you an out of state Minnesota Home Owner? Think twice! It has taken me a year to hopefully find the right words to help anyone doing some research.
The Short...
Former Resident/now out of state owner of 2nd home in Minnesota.
Insurance Adjuster Quote: $14,921.80
Midwest Exteriors Plus Quote 'matched to the penny': $14,921.40
Midwest Exteriors Plus eventual compensation? $37,099.91 [YES; a full 249% above their original quote.]
Gutter Guards ($690.00) to be paid by us, separately.
Our cost: was not 1, but 3 separate trips to MN in dealing with Midwest Exteriors Plus and a $2500 deductible included in above compensation.
We're out about an extra $3K for travel back and forth to handle M.E.P.'s mis-managing of our contract/claim.
To be honest, after seeing what I felt was inflated compensation, I did ask that they forgive my $2500.00 deductible for which they replied, 'it would be illegal'. They're right! Ha!! I did offer hope that EVERYTHING was legal...
The Long...
Hail damage from June.
Adjusted by insurance and Estimated by contractors in AUGUST; signed in OCTOBER with Midwest Exteriors Plus (because they did my neighbor's roof), and I paid a $5464.00 dwnpymnt for work to be completed in MAY (yes; 7-months AFTER signing).
FULLY COVERED matching INSURANCE WORK
Heads-up! With Midwest Exteriors Plus- your contracted work and communication about your contracted work regarding its schedule date may get sidelined by a Fishing Opener. You might discover this anomaly while waiting for days on the follow-up to their, "I'll look into that and get right back to you."
Midwest Exteriors Plus Cntrctr/Estimator will read insurance adjuster's quote and match it and may include something extra (to get your business [for us, it was re-siding back-side of garage]). The other contractors offered this too.
IMPORTANT; they will include on every contract the words, "Insurance supplements may be added to the final contract price". In my opinion, this is code for "We will do our best to find cause & maximize your insurance claim to our benefit" We actually received inventory items and products delivered to OUR house that were obviously for their OTHER projects... interesting.
As a conscious client, we scheduled our work months in advance, to give everyone at M.E.P. enough time to organize, order, deliver and execute on schedule without incident and easily within the parameters of time allotted by claim.
All that time...
They waited until only days before execution and we're calling them by the way, to pull up our file and they cannot remember what the job entailed, how to look-up or read an 'exact-imate; then forget what was promised as a bonus (on the contract [back-side of garage]), assign half the job and continue to lie to us on the phone about what's covered [and not] on our claim. Add a little, "Our guys are too busy now, and their rates have doubled, and people are going up to our guys and offering bonuses to join their crews". You can imagine how frustrating it was to know we were flying to MN in 2 days, to unfinished work without one representative from M.E.P. showing-up. ($37K client?)
When we questioned their obvious mis-reading of the insurance claim/coverage, they treated us as ill-educated on math, time, weather, and the demands set-forth on the Midwest contracting industry- even though we intentionally booked this 7 months in advance.
Before hanging up, we questioned, "How could you ONLY put siding on only the back of the garage... saying you used "cheap Menards siding" since it "wasn't covered" and then saying it "WAS covered?" This is not what we agreed to; this is not what we wanted.
Their retort, "It's the insurance companies fault on what they'll actually cover, I want a Corvette in my garage, it doesn't mean I get one."
What?!?!
10 minutes later... he calls back apologizing; saying he read the Exactimate again, 'this is so confusing'... 'just called your insurance adjuster and she said they'll cover the back of the garage AND the front and sides' Now he's begging me to complete the work.
My adjuster: "No call was made."
It was ALWAYS covered and they didn't listen as I sat helpless in their assumptions; they had months to get this straight; they acted like I had no idea what I was talking about and then when confronted on the facts and how dumb it was to Side ONLY the back of the garage and not the rest; they say the "Corvette" line [above]?
Adjuster said, M.E.P. knows this and it'll be hard to find another at this point.
Informing Jorian about having to fly back more than needed, wasting 5 days away from my family, and an extra $3K for the 2 extra trips.. he offered to only take off the Gutter Guards [$690], since it's "not our fault you live out-of-State."
$100 gift card for being treated like crap.
PS They replaced the quality Sunroom Siding by "matching" the 'cheap Menards siding'. Exhausting.
We deal with almost 1,000 customers every year and do not have the issues that are shared in this review. We are still being contacting by this person to try to get free work over and above what insurance would pay for. Unfortunately due to the scope of work Insurance is covering additional items that are not included. We recognize that this was a frustrating experience but thankfully it's an isolated case due to extremely difficult issues.
I have a signed contract for 10,446.05 to replace roof, facia and window wrap. I received a bill for 10,530.51. This company is charging me for 2 city permits. The contract states in the back of the form Contractor is responsible for permit. My signed contract is for 10,446.05 not 10,530.51 I shouldn't have to pay for the city permits.
