Midwest Anesthesia Associates Reviews (%countItem)

I received excellent service while in the hospital.
However, since I am a self-pay patient, I called to inquire whether a discount is offered. They offered to discount 30%. Without any sort of agreement, they did ask how I planned to pay, and I said I had hoped to pay in full in 3 payments. I received a statement dated 10/26/2019 which does reflect the discount I requested. I submitted a payment of $300 of my $1500 bill on 11/7. I never received another statement, then received a phone call late December saying I had been submitted to collections for not paying the minimum amount which had never been discussed by phone AND the cash pay discount had been reversed. I called both the collections company (who said it wasn't up to them) and Midwest Anesthesia directions to request to be given the 30% discount if I paid the remainder in full that day (I had just returned to work the month before and was in the process of paying off all of my maternity bills now that I had my income back), but they denied to give the discount back.

Midwest Anesthesia Associates Response • Feb 24, 2020

I am in receipt of your letter dated February 12, 2020 regarding an issue with our patient ***. I was glad to see Ms. received excellent service from her care team at Midwest Anesthesia Associates and ***.
We contract with a third-party billing company to handle our patient balances and in reviewing the notes on the patient’s account, it appears they handled the situation according to our policy.

Ms. contacted the billing company on 7/29/2019. She acknowledged her balance due of $2205 and asked if, because she was without insurance and considered “self-pay“, if she could receive a discount. We graciously obliged and granted her a 30% discount on her outstanding balance. When reviewing the notes of the billing specialist, I saw she agreed to pay off her remaining balance of $1,543.50 over the next 3 months. This would make her monthly payment $514.50.

Ms *** was subsequently mailed 2 statements reflecting her new balance of $1,543.50, to which we received no payment or acknowledgement. On September 9, 2019 a member of the billing staff made a phone call to her and left a message, to which she did not reply nor return the call.
On October 31, 2019 there had still been no contact or payment from Ms..

We obliged her in giving her a discount with her agreement to make the regular payments. She voided that agreement by not responding to statements or the phone call. It is our policy should this occur; the discount is no longer valid as she has not upheld her obligated arrangement. Therefore, that discount was negated and her entire balance due was forwarded to our contracted external collection company.
It is unfortunate Ms. did not make a payment for more than 3 months and only made a portion of her payment after being pursued by the collection company.
We do not feel we should have to honor her discount, but I am willing to do so should she wish to pay her remaining discounted balance of $1,243.50in full at this time.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any additional questions or require additional documentation in this regard.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
The balance has been paid in full via the 3rd party billing.

Regards

I received care in an emergency situation, my leg was broken. Subsequently I was unable to work, and therefore unable to pay. I requested financial assistance, and was only given a 50%discount, which I appealed - a process that required no further evidence or consideration, nor discussion with me, and was denied a change. Midwest anesthia was the only provider that my emergency visit brought me in contact with that didn’t see how in this situation I would be physically unable to make the payment I a timely fashion, if ever. The hospital, dr’s, pharmacy, and ambulance service all concluded my situation warranted a full discount in care, furthermore Midwest sent me to collections just a few days after the decision for a 50% discount was offered.
