Went to Midas for a simple $20 oil change that ended up costing me $250. I feel they damaged the oil pan while trying to install the plug. The tech claimed the plug was loose. Claimed it was damaged by whoever did the oil change prior. Well if that's the case I wouldn't have any oil left because it the plug was loose I would be dripping oil which I was not because there is no oil spots either at my home where I park or work. I tried installing the plug by hand and I could not even get it back in half way so no way it was loose. There were also metal shards INSIDE the pan. If it was a problem prior to them working on it those shards would have been pulled outside not pushed back inside from trying to reinstall the plug. To top it off they would not honor the $20 oil change that was advertised on tv that same day, I was charged $34. Said they were not participating in the program. No where in the business did they advertise that nor do they have their hourly rates. I received a call from Joe who was later willing to honor the $20 rate after I complained. But also wanted them to take responsibility for the oil pan. They charged me $118 for a $30 item online. After further discussing with Joe he took back his offer of refunding me the $14. When I heard of the issue I asked them to put everything back together and put in the old oil so that I can take it somewhere else. Said that couldn't be done.
When the oil drain plug came out on Mr. vehicle, there was no threads left in the oil pan but the drain plug threads were ok. There was oil leaks already on this vehicle when it came in to us. We invited Mr. to please come out and look at the oil pan and leaks on the vehicle while up on the lift. Mr. looked for himself and tried for himself to see that the oil drain plug will not tighten up if you try to install the original plug. We advised Mr., that this vehicle will need a new oil pan installed in order to complete the oil change and allow this vehicle to drive from this shop. We also advised the customer we would be willing to work with the labor cost since he asked us to in this situation. We explained to the customer there is no wrong way to remove an oil drain plug and that is why we keep open doors to show this customer his vehicle. Mr. said to perform the work and will pay by credit card and just contest the credit card bill. Due to this, we then required the customer he will need to pay in cash when finished . The customer picked up the vehicle the following morning. Mike *** told Mr. when he called before coming in to remember to bring cash in when he picks up the vehicle. Mr. again got upset when we required him to pay by cash. Upon billing the customer out for services perform, he again asked if we could do better on the pricing. We did the best we could to work with this customer.
