They used the wrong type of wood to fix my back deck. The type of wood they used for my deck started to rot and warp one week later after it rained. I took pictures of the numbers printed on the boards and called Home Depot, where they bought the boards from, and told them the numbers printed on the boards, they said that type of wood is not for outdoors. Home Depot said that type of wood they used would weather and rot. The wood has a lot of knots in it, and it is starting to rot where the knots are. some have turned into a hole. One of the spindles on the deck railing is warped. The contractor also replaced about four boards on my side door steps. I noticed they didn't put enough bolts on them. They are wobbly. They only put two bolts on each step and there should be four bolts on each step.(2 bolts on each side is the correct way.) The numbers printed on the boards are SPIB. No. 2 PRIME KD19 HT 67. I looked up the numbers on the Home Depot web site. It says the type of boards are #2 Prime Kiln Dried Southern Yellow Pine Lumber. They need to use pressure treated wood that is made to use for outdoors.

Refund I would like a refund for the back deck. I paid them 2,000.00 plus 1,354.00 to repair the back deck. I would like 3,000.00 back, so I can get my deck fixed from another company that is trustworthy. I did throw away a headboard, and a old tent, and three old bicycles in the dumpster that they used to throw away old boards in from the back deck. I am not sure how much was charged for the weight of the dumpster.
To whom it may concern,
We installed a new deck for Mr. and Mrs. the last week of March 28, 2020. We have before during and after pictures along with receipts for the materials purchased to validate my response.
1. We used the correct material for this project Southern Pine, Pressure treated Kiln dried lumber / SPIB No. 2 prime KD19 HT. See attached photos. It is unheard of for this product to warp after one week.
2. There is no reference to whom Mrs *** spoke with at home depot, and the information given to her is incorrect.
3.. Wood has knots. Our crew hand picked the wood in order to install the best product available.
4. One spindle is warped. We dispatched a crew member on 5/18/20 immediately after the "Covid 19 say in place order was lifted to replace the spindle and add additional screws/reinforcing to the landing. Mrs. refused to let us do these tasks and sent us away.
5. We were asked by the Whitings to replace boards on a seperate set of stairs on the side of their home. We supplied the labor and materials free of charge for this extra work. It was not within our scope of services.
6. We have reached out to Mrs. as to when we can come back to perform these tasks and have had no response from her.
7. The metal frame under the stairs on the side of the home are rusted and need to be replaced. We were directed to use the decomposing frame anyway. We could not drill additional screw holes due to the comprised rusty metal.
8. # 2 prime kiln dried southern pine is pressure treated lumber.
9. Mrs. partially stained her deck an orange color. Called our office and asked how to remove it because she didn't like the color. Immediately after this she filed a complaint with Revdex.com asking for her money back so that she could get a new deck.
10. We replaced all the rotted joists on the sub structure of the deck. Replacing the sub structure was not in our scope of services just the decking and railing.
11. We are still owed $595.91 on this project and are prepared to file a mechanic's lien.

It upsets me they keep saying things that are not true. First of all I painted the boards two days after they finished the deck, which was around the end of March 2020. It rained the next day. I noticed a week later that there was a hole in the wood on the back side of the railing where there was a knot in the wood. A couple of weeks later I noticed every time it rained the knots in the wood on the railing were starting to decay. The deck had only been built 4 weeks ago. I did not call Revdex.com until the first of May 2020. I did ask the business what color of paint to use to make the orange color stain not so bright. The orange color stain I used faded after a couple of weeks. It does not bother me anymore. It was the first time I have painted boards with stain. I couldn't paint the railings because of the knots decaying.
I also told them I wanted to replace the bottom two supports on the back deck because they are split. When the contractor came to replace the back deck, I saw two wooden support beams laying down on the ground in my back yard and a bag of concrete. I assumed they were going to replace the two bottom support beams. I did not notice that they didn't replace them until after they were done fixing the deck. I confronted them about it and they said they didn't think they needed to replace them. They said boards have splits and cracks in them. I don't agree. The support beams are old and cracked and need to be replaced. I have already paid them $2,000 plus $1,354. I think they have been paid enough for the work they have done. They don't need to pay me back anymore money. but I don't agree in paying them the remainder of $595.00.
They came to my house on May 11, 2020. I responded to their email May 10, 20 and told them I already had plans that day, but they came anyway. The contractor who built the deck showed up at my house a week later unannounced. He said he came to fix the warped spindle on the deck. We discussed the issues I was having with deck and disagreed. I told him I did not like the type of wood they used because it is starting to weather and decay. I showed him the side steps that have one bolt in them. He said he didn't have the right drill bit with him to fix the steps. I do not trust this company anymore. I took pictures of the two wooden support beams that they left on the side of my house. The boards are still at my house on the side of the house.
I am responding to my case #XXXXXXXX. I had an inspection done on my back deck on June 12,2020. After receiving the report from the inspector, I am going to have to replace the whole back deck, because it was not built correctly and I need to replace the bottom supports because most of them are old and are starting to rot. I am agreeing to not pay the past due amount of $595.00, because I am going to have to pay another company to replace the deck. I have already paid Meticulous construction $3,350.00 for the work they have done. They don't need to pay me back for the amount I have already paid them.
I just left Mrs. a message on her voicemail (7-2-20 @ 5:20 pm)
1. I first apologized for her being unhappy with the deck.
2. I initially thought that the complaints were mainly cosmetic.
3. I was out of town due to the corona virus and was not in town when the deck was constructed to supervise the project.
4. When I saw the inspection report I realized that there was more to address that Mrs. Whitings original concerns.
5. I requested to please meet with her so that we could talk, and I could look at the deck.
6. I offered to rebuild the deck, under my direct supervision.
My best regards,
Kathleen ***

I am sorry but I do not trust this company anymore. I told them to check the bottom supports before they replaced my back deck. I told them two of them were already split in the front of the deck and they are old. They said they were fine and they did not need to replace them. I am going to get another Company to replace my back deck who is a professional deck contractor.
We are in acknowledgment of Mrs. refusal to let us replace her deck. It was under her husband's direction that we were instructed not to replace any of the supports below the deck.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
That is not true. My husband did not say anything like that. The only thing my husband said was not to make the deck 12 ft. long. He said to keep the deck 10 ft. long. He also told the man who built the deck to put more supports under the deck that go horizontal underneath the deck because the boards were wobbly when you walked on it. This company keeps saying things that are not true. I am getting another Professional Deck Contractor to replace my deck. I have already had contractors come and look at the deck. The deck is not built correctly. The bottom supports are old and starting to rot. If my insurance wants Meticulous Construction to refund some of the money that I have paid them for the deck, that is up to them. My insurance company is the one that paid for the deck replacement. My insurance company told me they are not going to pay anymore money to Meticulous Construction after seeing the inspection report.
I have never seen a company continue to say things that are not true. I do not trust this company.
Mrs. original complaint was that we didn't use pressure treated wood, when in fact we did. I offered to replace the deck - she refused. This has turned into twisted mistruths and finger pointing. I see no reason for further discussion on this matter.

My insurance is having issues paying for another contractor to replace my back deck due to Meticulous Construction not building it correctly. I have called Meticulous Constructions insurance about the issue. I may not have enough funds in my repair acct. with my insurance to pay for the remaining repairs to my house due to hurricane Michael. I am still in the process of getting the interior repairs done. I am waiting to hear back from Meticulous Construction's Insurance Company. I am not sure yet if I will be able to get any money back yet. The main issue is the bottom supports did not get replaced , so the whole deck needs to be replaced. My deck is 4 feet off of the ground. Meticulous Construction Insurance is suppose to call me back next week.
