I purchased a *** pendant on a necklace from *** jewelers who carried the MetalSmiths line of jewelry at the time. I made my purchase in Dec. of 2011. The stone has developed a crack along the length of the stone. *** jewelers has called the company to try and rectify the situation and left a message but they have not received a return call from MetalSmiths. I emailed the company asking for a repair, replacement or refund but they are telling me that *** jewelers is responsible. On the MetalSmith web site their policy states: "We create our products-and our guarantees-with you in mind. If there is ever a problem, we'll make it right. Be sure to keep your proof of purchase so we can honour our promise to you." I expect either a replacement refund or repair. I would be happy to initiate the process through my jeweler but MetalSmiths will not return their calls.

Hello.
We have not received any messages from *** they can contact me via email if they would like to discuss options. However when it comes to cracked or chipped or broken stones, that is not something covered under a manufacturer warranty. Stones do not develop cracks, they appear if a stone is dropped or impacted. Very similar to the windshield of a vehicle. If it is chipped or cracked, that is not covered under warranty. *** is no longer a retailer of Metalsmiths Sterling. However in the interest of helping, please send the item into us and we will have *** our Head Gemologist inspect it. We do have a 1 year warranty against Manufacturer defects (this is stated on the warranty card that comes with each piece) even though this item was purchased in 2011 we will still help. If the stone is damaged from impact or dropping we can provide a quote for the cost of the repair. Please send the item to us via courier (***) and provide me with the tracking number so we can track the package.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept the response from MetalSmiths. The pendant was not dropped. It does not have any chips or other damage indicative that the stone was dropped or hit a hard surface. If this were the case there would be chips at the point of impact and a spider vein crack extending out from the point of impact. This, however, is not the case. The crack on this stone is a straight line from the top to the bottom of the stone. I believe that the stone had a fracture/inclusion when I purchased it and that it became worse and more prominent over time. I would be willing to send the stone back to MetalSmiths for repair if they will pay for shipping both ways. I am not willing to pay for repair costs for a defective stone. I also question whether a repair is possible since the inclusion probably exists deeper than just the surface of the stone. I noticed that they have this exact pendant for sale on their web site. In my opinion it would be easiest to replace the damaged piece with another one. *** has been in contact with MetalSmiths and will be sending them pictures of the stone.
