On April 20th Merry Maids came to our house to provide two hours of cleaning. The maids arrived at 12:29. At 1:25 Rene from Merry Maids called me to inform me that the master bedroom glass shower door shattered. She went on to say that the maids she sent to clean informed her that they were just cleaning the glass and it shattered. A while later Rene texted me and informed me that she believed it was the builders responsibility to fix because her maids 'were just cleaning'. She went on to say in text that she would contact Merry Maids insurance company and get back with us. Additionally, once I returned home I found small nicks and gouges on the water closet interior door opposite the glass shower door. On April 21st I called my bank and placed a stop payment on the check I wrote to Merry Maids. This home is less than a year old, my husband and I have cleaned the shower numerous times and have never noticed any issues with the glass shower or the glass door. I do not believe a maid is qualified to deduce that the shattering must have occurred due to improper glass door installation. Additionally, both maids left the home at 2:29pm, precisely two hours after arriving. Whatever time spent cleaning up the glass took away from the cleaning I identified wanting done through Rene prior to their arrival. I do not believe it is my responsibility nor the builders responsibility to fix the damage that was caused by Merry Maids. Merry Maids holds insurance for these accidents and it is unfair to burden me and the builder in the attempt to skirt responsibility.
Tell us why here...As Ms. states, the shower door shattered while one of our team members was cleaning it. The method of cleaning the glass door was routine. Our company has been cleaning shower doors like this in Albuquerque for more than 30 years, totaling hundreds of thousands of cleanings. This is the only time a door has shattered. When Renee learned what happened, she reached out to the builder, Pulte Homes, on behalf of Ms.. It took nearly a week for them to reply to Renee. When they did she was told that the home was five months old, and that there is a one year warranty. I am filing a claim with my insurance company, and plan to let them and Pulte Homes sort out who is responsible. As Ms. states, our team cleaned for two hours as she requested. She stopped payment on the check (which caused us to incur charges from our bank). Since the performance of the contracted cleaning is not in dispute, I request Ms. arraing for payment to be made ASAP.
