On 26 February 2019 two service technicians from McKim Construction and Septic came to our residence. The technicians were unable to complete the inspection since the pump was not functioning correctly, and we were informed they would be back out in a couple days to complete the inspection. Several weeks went by before McKim came back to our residence. The ‘technician’ that was sent to our property to complete the inspection and repair our pump we are certain was NOT a licensed septic technician. The individual was not familiar with our system and while attempting to identify if the solenoid needed replacing, he broke 2 fuses. Personnel that were on site to pump out our tank tried to help him. After many McKim employees became involved and assistance was sought on the phone from another technician it was determined that the solenoid needed replacing, and now 2 fuses that the technician broke.
Our issues are as follows:
1) An unlicensed septic technician was sent to make repairs to our septic system
2) THE MOST EGREGIOUS ISSUE WE HAVE IS THAT McKIMS TECHNICIANS FAILED TO SECURE THE LID OF THE PUMP AND OUR CHILDREN NEARLY FELL INTO THE PIT KICKING A BALL AROUND OUR YARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE CALLED TO REPORT THE ISSUE ON THE WEEKEND AND REQUESTED MCKIM COME OUT IMMEDIATELY ON MONDAY TO SECURE THE LID. THEY NEVER COME OUT TO FIX THIS!!! THEY NEVER EVEN CALLED US BACK! THEY OBVIOUSLY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS AND THEIR FAMILIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We took care of this and secured the lid ourselves.
3) We were left with a mess on our property
a. Black nitrile gloves were found in the driveway and yard (These gloves were used by those individuals pumping out our septic tanks)
b. Packaging material was found around the septic system and in our driveway
4) There were no specific details on the first invoice and we requested an itemized invoice with each item/service clarified and the cost per item.
a. Additional invoices were sent from the office again with no changes
To whom it may concern
On Feb 26 2019 Mckim Construction was scheduled to go to ***. to do a state inspection on an alternative drip septic system. When the 2-man crew arrived the pump tank had effluent up to almost the lid of the tank. The pump was turned on manual but the pump was not pumping out the effluent. The septic control panel was checked to make sure there was power getting to the pump. Power was getting to the pump, but with the effluent being as high in the riser as it was, the technician was unable to disconnect the pump to check to see if the pump filter was clogged. Mrs. was contacted and was informed to not run any water, that we did not want her backing up into her house and that a pump truck needed to come out and pump the pump tank down so that the technician could investigate as to why the pump was not pumping the effluent out. Mrs. told us to go ahead and pump out the pump tank. We sent out a 2-man pump truck crew out to pump the pump tank. The pump tank was pumped down to right above the pump at the bottom of pump tank. As we proceeded to pump the pump tank down the truck had a mechanical issue that required us to have our mechanic go out on site from our shop. In the mean time the technician disconnected the pump and cleaned the pump filter which was clogged, reattached it then went back to the septic control panel were he found a fuse had blown. The fuse was replaced and the technician turned the pump back on and again it blew. He then went out to the hydraulic unit to inspect it to see if there was an issue with it. Found the solenoid for zone one not working. He replaced it and went back and turned the system back on and at that time the pump kicked on and the technician was able to finish the state inspection. He did a draw down to make sure the pump was pumping at the proper rate. This home has 2 zones so it appears that between the filter being clogged and the solenoid going bad that is what caused the pump tank to be in high water. During all of this the mechanic was able to get the pump truck working. So yes there were at that time 5 men out there. The technician called me and asked about the amount for the bill. The invoice was left with 3 separate prices for the inspection, pump out, solenoid and fuses. The lid was put on and 6 screws were put back into it. We take making sure the lids are on and secure very seriously. The black gloves ! have no idea we use only blue gloves that we get from Vamac our distributer that includes the mechanic gloves. Packing material, the fuse and solenoids do not come in any box or container they are lose and put into a plastic snap on box with dividers that hold light bulbs, fuses, solenoids, connectors, toggle and switches. We apologized to Mrs. about the truck that had a mechanical issue. She was very upset that it was in her drive way. She felt that we should not charge her because of the inconvenience. I told her that we had to still charge for the services. And to this day Mrs. has not paid for the services. But her septic system is working

McKim Construction
Good afternoon! My apologies but I was unable to answer Michelle's response and this fell off my radar due to a sick little one. In response to her claims we have the following: 1)My husband (***) literally watched the technicians from McKim's remove black gloves and throw them on to the septic truck. Her claim that they use blue gloves is a lie. 2) The packaging debris left in our yard was from the items they brought to fix the truck. 3) The fuses were not blown the technician broke them when he was trying to remove them. Michelle lied 4) They did NOT secure the pump lid because we had to call on the weekend when one of your children nearly fell into the pump housing. The lid slipped off when they ran over it chasing a ball. I (***) called McKims that day and asked that they send someone as soon as they got this message. NO ONE ever came out. We went and purchased small screws and secured it ourselves. Michelle lied they did NOT secure the lid with 6 screws!! 5) Her claim that the increased number of individuals was due to the truck breaking down was incorrect since my husband was out there and the technician they sent was not familiar/licensed on this system and was calling back to the office for help. They sent out more technicians to help him. His unfamiliarity with the system lead to him breaking the fuses. They were not blown. Michelle again lied 6) Finally, we asked for an itemized bill and they have not provided. We are being charged twice for fuses. They are charging us $270.00 for 2 fuses (second charge for fuses on bill) and a solenoid. I have asked that they provide the manufacturer, cat#/Part# and its actual price. They refuse to provide this. I have call around and the most those parts should cost, I have been told, is $90-100. McKim's is gouging us for at least $170. The bill reads as follows (with misspellings): "2109 VA septic inspection" 230.00 "Soilenode NO" Pump out 2 Fuses 285.00 Replaced Solinoid 270.00 Replaced fuses Total 785.00 I want this bill corrected, itemized with manufacturers, part/catalog numbers and prices. They have resent us this same bill over and over and over with not updates or corrections. We are being way over charged and this is completely wrong. I do not want anyone else to have this happened to them. Thank you!! *** and
