Hello ***: I apologize for the confusion with the processing of the Market Street Gift CardThe explanations you were given by *** *** were incorrect Due to your email, I have scheduled a meeting with the managers of *** *** and all other restaurants at MarketStreet to ensure
the proper training of their servers for the processing of the gift card Your explanation of what happened tells me that the card was not processed in the most efficient mannerYour card is worth $and we do not take any of it backAnd if you check the balance of the card it will more than likely show a $within the next few days I will explain what has happenedOur gift cards use the *** banking system and are processed like credit cardsYou have experienced, two standard credit card processing steps that are much more noticeable on a value loaded gift card because the low available balance Since these steps are pretty technical and take place behind the scenes, not all servers understand how it works, and unfortunately you were provided the wrong information In service industries all credit cards are “approved” for 20% more than the amount that is entered into the register This is a standard process at ALL restaurants and tipped industries and similarly at gas stationThis is a protection for servers so they do not get “stiffed on bill” If the server entered $for the amount of the transaction, the card would decline The server entered $and the register asked for approval of $24, the transaction passed the approval process and $was put on holdAfter you fill out the tip portion of the receipt the server goes back to the register and enters this amount This means that the $approval is held on the card until the restaurant settles their credit card transactionsThe longest this hold can live on your card is daysAll businesses must “settle” with credit card companies at least once every days. So in your situationIf you did not put a tip on the gift card, then the $should go back on your card within days of the transaction. If you would like to call me my number is belowI am in the office 9-M-F Regards, *** ***Marketing DirectorMarketStreet Lynnfield***
