pt came to the office originally for extractions of all his upper teeth and get a "healing" denture (plate). due to his complicated medical history, the *** did all the extractions. before his appointment with the *** we told him that it was crucial to wear his healing denture right after his teeth are extracted so the gums can heal and form exactly like the inside of the denture. well pt came back 2 weeks after his appointment with the *** and said that the doctor there had such a hard time extracting his teeth and he lost so much blood that he had to do a blood transfusion. according to pt, never once did the *** doctor tried on the denture or told him to wear them. When he came to our office (2 weeks later), he said the denture didnt fit. He tried it at home after he was healed which most likely will affect the fit of the denture. we did everything that we could do at that visit. adjusted the denture some bc he was still healing. it takes 3 months to heal all the way - bone and tissue. in that 3 month period, he will continue to loose bone and tissue will shrink. He walked in the office on 1/29/20 and stated that his denture was too loose and big. we did everything to help him by relining the denture. reline is to place material inside the denture to make them fit snug against the gums again. when we did it, the denture had amazing suction meaning that it fit so well against the gums that it stayed in when speaking and biting down. he left very happy. he didnt hear from him until this complaint. he never once called the office to express his concern.
let me give you some dental knowledge: immediate/healing dentures are for the patient to go home with as soon as the teeth are extracted. they are based on the amount of bone he has when he had teeth present. once the teeth are extracted, the bone and tissue shrink significantly over the next 3 months. if patient is happy with the esthetic and fit of the healing denture, then we reline it (adding material) to fill the gap between the tissue and the denture. if the patient is not happy with the fit and esthetic or has had a lot of bone resorption during the healing time, then we proceed with a conventional denture which will be custom fit to his jaw bone after the healing.
again, pt has never expressed any concern to us.
Also *** paid for the denture, patient paid for the gold tooth to be added to the denture.
there is no bridge or filling that were done in this office as he mentioned.
