Review: Wrongfully withheld my Rental Application Deposit of $2650.00------Mark M[redacted] of M Squared Real Estate in Washington DC is in violation of the Virginia Landlord Tennant Act and has refused to refund my application deposit of $2650.00. The statute requires that the applicant receive a refund of the application deposit minus any alleged actual damages and expenses "within 20 days after failure to rent the unit." To date, he has not returned the deposit or an itemized list of actual expenses and damages. He stated in an email that he had several applicants but then after the 20 days, he said he had still not rented the unit. Upon receipt of an email from M Squared saying my application was accepted, I immediately responded saying I was no longer interested so that they could accept another applicant. I dont understand how they could incur damages in that amount of time. How can a company get away with stealing someones money when they have not signed an actual LEASE? I would highly dissuade anyone from doing business with this company.Desired Settlement: A full refund of $2650.00.
