Review: Business requested a 50% deposit for roofing work ($8000). Failed to appear to do work on promised dates. Repeatedly ignored phone calls and emails for a two month period. Business never returned to our house. Ignored request to refund money. Attempts by attorney to deliver certify mail to business at numerous addresses, and through registered agent in state, all failed.Desired Settlement: Business requested and received $8,000.00, a 50% deposit for roofing work. Business never returned. After waiting for two months, we secured a new contractor (who completed the work in timely fashion). Business should refund our deposit.
Review: On May 2, 2014 we hired [redacted] (d/b/a M. Giarrusso Roofing & Siding LLC) to put on a new roof and replace 28 windows in our New Jersey home. [redacted] stated he was licensed in NJ and Delaware. We have photos of his work trailer stating he is licensed and insured. He did not start our roof for about 2 weeks claiming rain and finally did the back half of the roof. He was claiming he would complete the front but did not, informing us that he although he put in for permits, they were not granted by Woolwich Township because he did not have a NJ Home Improvement Contractor license. He asked for more time to reapply for his license, he brought in friends to try to get permits under their license(none had a valid license) and even in an email asked us to pull the permits for him. We would not do this and therefore our roof has been left incomplete. He cannot complete the roof without the license or permits and is being fined by our township(letter enclosed). We were told by our township that he did not need a permit for windows. We allowed him to start the window project. He put in 3 windows and were very displeased with [redacted]s shoddy work. He cut and damaged 2 of the 3 J-channels and did not inform us of this. He did no caulking on the exterior or interior. We informed [redacted] that we will not have him continue to do work for us because he has no license and is not seeming to seek renewal of his NJ license. Shortly prior to informing him, he provided an ACORD insurance certificate that provided an alternate business address of 5 Florence Lane Penns Grove, NJ 08069. He continues to try to use friends licenses and then operate as subcontractor. His lack of license and permit also makes any warranty that could come with his work invalid.Frankly, we are shocked by the level of deceit and unprofessionalism we have experienced from this individual, He acts as if the rules do not apply to him and boasts that he will not be fined for not having a license.Desired Settlement: Compensation to enable us to hire a proven, NJ licensed contractor for the following:1) Completion and correction of partial roof installation to enable full GAF Golden Pledge Warranty as contracted2) Proper installation of replacement windows3) Purchase of window nail fins for all windows4) Replacement of incorrectly measured windows
