towed van to shop, got running, said it was a distributor issue, drove home, got home ok, next few times driving it died, finally needed tow back to shop, they say it's a loose wire to distributor, I now owe $150 for their mistake of not completing the distributor issue properly the first time, I don't think I should have to pay for that mistake
free ride to my van, otherwise it's a $50 taxi fee, and no charge for correcting their first time incomplete fix on vehicle
I, ***, and the team at LJ's Auto Service and Repairs are very sorry that *** feels he and his vehicle were not properly taken care of at our facility. *** owns a 1984 Chevy Van G20 with a 5.0 V8. He had gotten several mechanics from Craigslist to come to his home to work on his van. *** then reached out to us to do what the other mechanics could not, get his old van up and running again. We happily obliged, and towed his vehicle into the shop. Upon inspection of the van we found that it was in disrepair. The previous mechanics had left a large leak from the water pump, several improperly routed hoses, and even bolts missing from the oil pan resulting in a leak to name a few. The transmission also had two noticeable leaks. We refilled the transmission fluid and told *** of the leaks. We do not service transmissions, so we promptly instructed *** to visit a transmission shop at his convenience. We repaired the leak at the water pump, and replaced the oil pan bolts we were able to find in the van. Which remedied the oil and water leaks. We also properly routed a few hoses that were placed in the wrong spots. We did all of these things, but only charged for resealing the water pump. To get the van running again we had to replace a broken distributor rotor. Once this was replaced, the van was able to start and drive. This was also an affordable fix offered to ***. Once the van was back in his possession for a few days he called me to come and open his hood, so he could check his oil. I came to his home after hours and opened the hood for him at no charge. Later the van died on the side of the road, and he called me. I came to his aid, but upon arrival the van started and drove back to the shop. I told him it was no charge, but he offered me $20 for my troubles, which I accepted. A few days later *** van had died again, and I proceeded to retrieve it in the tow truck. Upon inspection, we found a wire to the distributor was making poor connection. This wire was separate from the rotor that we had recently replaced, and appeared to have a faulty connection, most likely from age and vibration of the old running engine. We were able create continuity from the wire to the distributor, and quoted around $150.00 for the tow and the work. When the van was returned, we only charged $122.47. His complaint appears to have been filed prior to the final return of the van after hearing the most recent quote. We did all that we were able to do for *** van within the confines of his budget so that he could have a running and driving vehicle for work. *** is a likable gentleman which is why we had no issue helping him in his time of need, whether it be roadside assistance, after hours help, and discounted work. As a small business we like to help individuals succeed and will do our part to help them fairly, and in this case even go above and beyond typical service for customers such as ***. We at LJ's believe that customer service is paramount. We have several 5 star ratings on facebook, google, and various other sites like surecritic. Our work is always of the highest quality, our prices are fair and reasonable, and we happily go out of our way to assist customers because we know they are normal people like us trying to make it. We are very apologetic that *** was not satisfied with his services and treatment here. We hope to continue working hard for our customers and doing good honest work for good honest people.

good intentions don't keep a car going. on a Friday the first time the van was repaired I drove home and was, upon reaching home, unable to open the hood, checking for signs of steam and other woes which had been a slight problem before, this was half an hour after I left their shop, I tried opening it without damage or success over the course of the next hour or so, not days later, not wanting to drive a car I couldn't service by at least checking under the hood, called for them to fix the hood release apparently accidentally jammed somehow in their shop, after one of them arrived we discovered the van had left their shop with a disconnected hood latch, the mechanic corrected the error and left, the following Monday I tried driving to a bicycle shop 15 miles away, got 12 miles, van died, after half an hour it started, LJ's tow arrived, followed me to shop, gave driver $20, drove home, hoping for best, mechanic shared no objection or doubt, Tuesday, the next day the van died around the corner, got towed to shop, new repair made, was told a loose wire connection to distributor, the same distributor they'd worked on Friday, a few days earlier, the total mileage driven to that point since first repair was less than 35 miles in 72 hours. from the start I grumbled about incompetent craigslist mechanics wasting my time and my money (disconnected hoses, not installing the seals in new water pump, dropping bolts, keeping some of my tools, etc.) but at no time did I ask for a low budget fix, I asked if they accept credit/debit cards, yes was the reply, and the mutual agreement was get it fixed right, their charging for distributor work that was not completed the first time, though it was worked on, and a disconnected hood latch, even though its repair was free are not my concern so much as my time and money were wasted when it wasn't done right the first time, though not as badly wasted as by the craigslist thieves. after I left with my van the last time one of the mechanics admitted a better wiring job could be done, my question is- why tell me that? why was the better wiring job left undone? oh, well, nobody's perfect, they're preferred over Firestone, pep boys, DJ's, or the shop that disappeared, cars and all
