It is very unfortunate that the vehicle has damage to the oil pan and has to be replaced. Although, we do understand your frustration, Leif Johnson Ford has no responsibility for the damage to the oil pan. We have tried to explain this issue with the previous response. From our perspective we cannot see any workmanship fault at any level. Also, in areas like this when a plug/screw has been put in incorrectly the issue will not fail until the next time it is removed. We are sorry we had to be the bearer of bad news. Thank you,Leif JohnsonTell us why here...
Revdex.comConcern ID: [redacted]Regarding: [redacted]VIN: [redacted]Customer brought there 2006 Ford Ranger to our facility for the first time on November 26th 2014 for an oil change at 79,286 miles. This has been the only oil change she has had done at any of our locations. The technician removed the oil pan drain plug to drain the oil before replacing the oil and filter. Upon removal of the drain plug, the technician noticed that the threads were stripped. The next step would be to inspect the oil pan which the plug threads into. He saw that the threads in the oil pan were also stripped.A drain plug is usually made of steel and has a gasket that is installed with it. If the drain plug is over tightened it can strip out the threads of the oil pan which is typically made of aluminum. Aluminum is a softer metal than the drain plug and if not installed properly, it can strip out the threads of the oil pan. A drain plug cannot be striped upon removal, only installation. The customer states she did not experience an oil leak prior to this. She may not have experienced an oil leak from an over tightened drain plug. This was the first time the vehicle had come to our facility for an oil change. The over tightening of the drain plug would have no doubt happened during the installation of the drain plug on a previous oil change. Judging by the current vehicle mileage the vehicle has gone 31,330 miles since the purchase. The oil should have been changed at least seven times since buying the vehicle from Leif Johnson Ford.Another concern the customer had was that the technician may have been inexperienced, or in a hurry due to closing time, or an upcoming four day holiday weekend. She also mentioned that the oil change was completed after hours. The technician has been with the company for five years as a lube technician. The customer was given pricing for the oil pan replacement at 5pm on the day before Thanksgiving. We did not close our facility until 7pm that day. We were closed only on Thanksgiving day there was no four day weekend. Service Drive [redacted], [redacted], was present for the conversation [redacted] had with [redacted], [redacted]. During this conversation, he explained to her how this was not negligence on our part. He also extended his sympathy in offering the replacement of the oil pan at a discounted rate. She declined the repair. We feel that by offering to repair the vehicle for her at a discounted rate, we have shown our care and concern for her and her vehicle. [redacted], [redacted], has been attempting to reach [redacted] this week to no avail.?

I am rejecting this response because:I would like to speak with the [redacted] mentioned. There have been NO calls to my knowledge from anyone at Leif Johnson Ford, and NO messages. I'd like to know what phone number they are calling - & would very much like to speak with the person mentioned. I appreciate the technical description, & having had the vehicle checked by other professionals, have received technical descriptions from them on this matter as well. What LJ Ford is saying is possible - but according to everyone I've consulted, it's also possible the damage could have occurred that day. I do not appreciate their inferences that the vehicle was not taken care of prior to this visit - there are things they do not know in that regard. Please arrange a meeting with the [redacted] who supposedly has been trying to contact me, or LJ Ford management to discuss everything. This is a tremendous hardship for me & I'm trying to find the best way to solve the problem. I am not flippantly disregarding their discount - but even with it, their cost is prohibitive.
