I purchased 60 large square bales from Fred at Lazy FD Ranches and Hay Sales back in July 2019. I had bought a couple bales the previous year and they were ok quality so I purchased a semi load full. I specifically asked for grass mix hay that is horse quality. I also asked that I be given a week's notice of delivery to ensure that I had payment and a tractor available to unload. I was given two hours notice of delivery. The hay looked good from the outside and the first bale I opened was ok - there was a bit of mold but I fed what I could. Fast forward to cold weather December 2019 and I started feeding out more of the Lazy FD hay. It was overwhelmingly moldy. the majority of the bales I opened were moldy. I contacted Fred and it took him 3 weeks to get back to me. He came out to my farm and agreed that the hay had been baled too early and that they hay was of no use to me to feed to horses. Fred agreed to buy back the remaining hay. When his employee came to load up the hay, he brought a checque that was $865.00 short. I delivered back more than 75% of the original hay unopened. There were several bales open and Fred said to me, why should I be responsible for this hay, I can't load it up and feed it to my cows or resell it...so Fred expects me to bear the cost of his incredibly crappy, moldy hay. He also said I hope you dont expect me to replace this hay, hay is hard to find this time of year. Well, no doubt!! I wouldn't have to be out finding replacement hay if the hay I bought, paying up front, wasn't moldy in the first place. I have contacted Fred via text and email and I have tried calling. I would like the remaining money ($865). I did not charge him for all of the moldy hay that I have been saddled with - I decided to not ask for all of my money back and I also had to rent a tractor and buy fuel in order to reload the bales. I am out to the tune of $1000. If Fred had told me it was not horse appropriate hay or paid me what he owes, I would not be writing this now.
