I took my Honda in for start up issues. My car was left overnight and looked at in the morning. Bill called me and left me a voicemail saying that I had a bad ignition coil, and that a crack was found in my exhaust manifold. He quoted me a price for the ignition coil when I returned his call, and I told him to go ahead and replace it. When I picked up my car, I found an additional ~$50 charge for NEW SPARK PLUGS. I told Bill that I did not appreciate that they did work on my car that I did not approve, and he gave me a refund, but at the same time telling me that he had the right to charge up to 10% more than what he quoted me and he doesn't usually give refunds like this.
About a month later I was having similar issues with my car starting and the check engine light came on. I got a read from Advanced Autoparts that said "cylinder 1 misfire." I took my car back to Bill with receipt and the picture of the read out in hand. I experienced the worst customer service from him. Bill did not say much to me. His answers were very short (and his body language and facial expressions did not sit with me well), and he informed me that my car has more than one ignition coil, and that his shop only fixed one of the four. He did not inform/educate me of this the first time I was there. Bill did not look at the receipt or the picture of the read out from Advanced Auto that I had with me, and he insisted that it would be a different ignition coil that was defective, and that I would have to pay in full... again. He never offered to come out and look at my car. I felt belittled by his curt answers, and I admit, I stormed out because I was severely frustrated with him not treating me like a valued customer. I took my car elsewhere... they had me look under my hood with them as they explained the issue. Cylinder 1 had a malfunctioning ignition coil. As I left that second mechanic, they said to me, "I'm not saying [Laytonia] gave you the wrong part, but the ignition coil I found was a different shape than the others in your car."
I was referred to Bill by a trusted friend. He told me that Bill's shop was a bit pricey, but they did good work. What I experienced was rudeness, work done on my car that I did not approve, and bad customer service. I, personally, will not be returning there ever again. If somebody just wants a quick fix to their car and doesn't care about how much they're spending, then Laytonia Auto might be the place for them.
