We are in receipt of the above referenced complaint made by a concerned consumer. Please be advised that we have reviewed the complaint and find that it is totally without merit.
We were the beneficiary of a...
pre-arranged funeral service which was paid for by the decedent. Per State of Missouri rules and regulations, whenever a funeral home performs a service in which the deceased has pre-paid, said statement for services must match EXACTLY as the deceased set the services up when making the pre-burial arrangements. In this case, per State Guidelines, this service was set up EXACTLY as the pre-burial agreement.
In speaking to the funeral director who assisted the consumer, these procedures were explained to the consumer, however, the consumer failed to understand that the deceased did not in fact pay for the vault and/or some cemetery charges at the time of setting up the burial plan.
If the deceased set aside $12,000.00, please be advised that Austin Lane Mortuary, Inc., did not receive that amount. Austin Lane Mortuary, Inc. received the exact amount of pre-need ($6381.26) and the amount for the Vault ($1270.00 paid directly to the vault company) which was required by the cemetery because of the plot chosen.
Lastly, the amount of $1200.00 in incidentals in which the deceased itemized on her burial plan was part of the original $6381.26 AND paid to OUTSIDE companies on behalf of the deceased for the Cemetery plot, obituaries and flowers. All of this itemized on the funeral statement. If additional monies were set aside, we suggest the consumer inquire at the nursing home in which the deceased was residing at the time of death.
It is very apparent that this consumer is misunderstanding the statements provided to her. We are, however, willing to meet with her to clarify ANY false perceptions she may have in her lack of understanding how pre-planned burials work. We WILL NOT be making any refunds under any circumstances.
