Vacation Property Sale Fraud
Basically, we were defrauded in the amount of $39,337.66 and lost our vacation property to this scam. Andrew Cocker Smith guaranteed the sale of this property. A simplified chain of events follows:
The buyers supposedly sent a wire transfer covering the sale of our property plus taxes they agreed to pay and the transfer fee involved ($25,106.62). This wire supposedly has an error and was sent back to the bank. The bank decided to then send the money as a cashier's check via a courier service. This package was supposedly lost in transit and could only be claimed via a legal process. Andrew Cocker Smith connected me with an attorney in Mexico to make this claim. We hired Miriam S, a Mexican Attorney. She supposedly got a settlement in the amount of $46,031.01 which covered the lost check, her fees ($10,000) and damages. When she supposedly got this check, she was going to send it via FedEx Overnight, Insured. This did not happen. The check was supposedly not declared and was held and fined by the Mexican Customs. They then supposedly passed this on to the Mexican Treasury, who fined us again. They then indicated that we could arrange to have our attorney pick up the check. A date was set for September 13th. Before they would release this check they demanded an insurance fee of $6608. We refused to pay this. On September 16th, we got an email that the Mexican Treasury had given our check to the US Treasury, Office of Foreign Asset Control. We contacted them and they verified that this was a fraud.
Would like to get our property back. Also would like to have firm brought up on fraud charges.
This law office was instrumental in scamming me out of $10 000.00 US. They were the law office working on behalf of Global Sleeps!
Global Sleeps contacted my husband and myself to purchase our time share - they indicated their lawyer was Andrew Crocker Smith. We did some researching (admittedly limited) and we were able to verify that both Global Sleeps and the law office appeared legit. We stupidly agreed to pay the transfer fees involved as the lawyer indicated the money was available and ready to transfer. This never happened. Both Global Sleeps and this law office are crooks!!
I would like to get a full, or even partial refund. Ideally I would like to have them charged as well!
