I am responding to the complaint made by *** *** about repairs made to his Honda Civic in March, 2014. *** lives across the street in an apartment complexHe asked if he could bring his car in for NYS inspectionHe let me know the engine light was on***
understood it would need repairsI ran thecodes and made up an estimate as *** had requested. There were many codesThey would also need to be repaired before the car could pass inspection. The codes were, 1) Multiple Cylinder Misfires. The fix: A tune up. 2) Engine running too cold. The fix: Replace thermostat. 3) Coolant temperature sensor. The fix: Replace sensor. 4) As I refilled the cooling system coolant poured all over the floor in my shopThe radiator was cracked and so would also need to be replaced. *** was given an estimate and talked it over with me and agreed to the work and pricesAfter replacing the radiator we let the car run outside for over an hour to make sure the fans turned on and there were no coolant leaksEverything was ok. *** drove the car to Hilton to take $out of his bankHe soon called and said his car was overheating and he had shut it off and that it would not start againI told him to get it back to me as soon as possibleHe had it towed in and I did a compression check on on the engine and found there was no compression on any cylinders. I believe that *** should have stopped the car when the temperature gauge began to rise into the hot zoneBecause he ignored the danger lights on his dash, the engine needed to be replacedI diagnosed the car again and found that because of the high temperature the car was allowed to reach it was so badly overheated that all the plastic on the engine melted, I pulled head off and found it was warped and the head gasket was blownI began to take the engine apart to attempt to save it and as always all parts are kept together with the nuts and bolts put in separate areas of car so they did not get mixed with other partsThis is a common practice in the businessI have done many head gaskets on those cars and have not had a problemI did suggest to *** that another mechanic look at the job because my wrist was broken and in a cast at that pointI did tell him that I believed he had over heated the engine to the point of total ruinThis was a $job that I did not charge *** for because I do know his personal situationBecause *** lives in an apartment I allowed him to leave his car on my lot as it is not allowed where he livesI charge $a day for storage on my lot and saved *** months of charges while he decided what to doTotal storage savings $Regards, Larry's Auto Service
