I have been receiving faxes from this company, signed by a supposed attorney named Cemal Turk, asking me to '...consent to be in partnership...? with him for unclaimed property of a deceased Canadian man who happens to have the same last name as mine but is unrelated. The letter describes the deceased as a former client of Lakeshore Law. Mr. Turk describes a ...'100% risk free? process for the claim, requiring 10% for 'charity organizations? while offering to split the remaining 90% with me. This scheme, if not attempted fraud, is one of the most cynical and abusive practices I've ever encountered, even for bottom-feeder law firms and insurance companies.
No further contact by the busi I want all contact from this entity stopped. I would like the appropriate Canadian legal and regulatory officials to be aware of the practices of this organization and know that, if it is a legal entity, it represents Canada very poorly.
In response to Case # ***
Since the beginning of May 2019, we have been made aware of two instances in which a fax has been sent out by *** (not by us) to many professionals in the USA asking them to participate in a financial scam. This fax uses our physical street address and a web domain, similar to one we used to use as our primary domain, to look legitimate. The web domain that still points to our website is www.lakeshorelaw.com and the one the *** are using is www.lakeshorelawca.com. You can tell by visiting our actual website, www.mhalaw.ca that we no longer refer to our firm as Lakeshore Law and there is no *** that works here.
We are aware of this scam and have taken several steps to try and stop the *** and disassociate our company from this scam. We contacted our local police department and have opened a case with the fraud bureau. Through the Halton police we were advised to open a case with the FBI, which we have also done.
We assure you, we are not the ones conducting this scam and are also victims in this situation. We are happy to provide more evidence to support our defense if required.
