Gym made unauthorized charges to my bank acct >1 year after my membership was cancelled, & sent a collector after me when I disputed the latest chargeI attended UFC Gym in Durham on a month-to-month membership back when it was known as L.A. Boxing, from September of 2012 until January of 2013. In December or January during that term I cancelled my membership in person by signing a cancellation form, which is in accordance with the gym's policy. My account was inactive until the gym suddenly started charging me membership fees again ($64 per month) over a year later, from May of 2014 through January of 2015, at which point I discovered the issue. I did not reopen my membership, authorize these charges, or have any communication with the gym before this happened. In fact, I do not even live in Durham, North Carolina anymore.I started contacting the gym in January of 2015 to resolve this dispute, requesting that they refund me the membership fees they started charging in May, 2014. UFC has been less than helpful. After a couple weeks of calling the franchise, I was finally able to get the owner's contact information and have her ([redacted]) eliminate the late and processing fees I was slapped with by their collection agency when I cancelled the January payment from my card. I was also able to confirm with the staff that my membership has been "re-cancelled." However, [redacted] refuses to respond to any request from me to refund the membership charges the gym placed on my account from May through December of 2014. In our correspondences I admitted to [redacted] that I no longer possessed a copy of my cancellation form, given that it has been over two years since the cancellation was made. This should not be surprising. Surely no company would expect a former client to keep their paperwork forever, and certainly not for more than a year after a membership appeared to have been successfully cancelled. After hearing this, she said she would check your records, and - shockingly - claimed that she does not have any cancellation paperwork on file from me. She asserted that my membership must have been frozen rather than cancelled, and therefore that the 2014 charges to my card are valid. Nonetheless, she's ignored all of my requests to send me a copy of my original gym contract and any membership freeze form I would have signed. Instead, she claims that I may have frozen my membership over the phone, even though this is against your company policy. She also provided no explanation as to why my membership would have been frozen for 15 months, when according to the gym's policy the longest an account may be frozen is for 4 months. Furthermore, I would have had no incentive to freeze rather than cancel my membership because it was month-to-month; therefore I had no outstanding commitment to them that I would have to fulfill later on.Ultimately, [redacted] seems to feel entitled to keep the money her business took from me without authorization simply because I'm unable to definitively prove my membership cancellation. I have seen multiple reviews from other former customers on[redacted], etc. from people who had experienced the same thing. This is unacceptable, and this business needs to be held accountable.Desired SettlementI want the $512 the business took from me returned, and I want all personal information removed from their system so that this cannot happen again.
I signed my son up & was told there was no contract & I could pay each month. He only went 2 months. They turned my account in to a collection agency.I went to LA Boxing in May 2013 - and enrolled my son. I did not sign a contract & specifically told them he would probably only come 2 months - as the plays football and the season would be starting in July/August. They said I could pay month to month. I paid for the first two months and bought his gloves, etc. He stopped attending in July 2013. They sent me a bill - I called them and told them he would not be coming back. They said ok -but then turned my account over to a credit agency called [redacted] and they have started calling me and sending me collection notices. Again - I did not sign a contract with LA Boxing and I did notify them verbally that my son would not be returning.Desired SettlementI would like them to inform this credit agency I do not owe them any money. I have no contract with them and paid them via check for the period my son attended.Business Response Client signed a four month agreement that rolls over to revolving. The agreement requires a written cancellation. None has ever been provided. Previous Manager left in September and new mgmt has not had any contact with client. We have cleared the collections in the essence of goodwill.Final Consumer Response I am glad the company stated they would clear the collections in the essence of goodwill - HOWVER - I am still receiving phone calls from the collection agency they turned this in to. Also - I never signed any 4 month agreement - and I did phone them and inform them I would not be bringing my son back due to other sports commitments. They did not request anything in writing. At this point - I would like them to contact the collection agency and have them cease contacting and harassing me over a debt I do not owe.
Review: I cancelled my membership at LA Boxing Astoria in June 2013. At the time of cancellation, they charged me for the month of August because that was their policy. Now, they have charged my card for 2 more months, September and October at $86.01 a month. Total $172.02. I DID NOT authorize these charges. When I went in to have the problem resolved, the manager said that he could not do it on the weekend, but he will call me back on Monday. He would not give me a copy of the paper that I signed when I asked for it. After I said that I wanted the problem fixed right now, he said "we don't need you here and we don't need your money." I have to wait until Monday to see what happens.Desired Settlement: I want a refund of $172.02. I also think this business seriously needs to be looked into because this also happened to my friend and I found a lot of reports online about it.

Response:
At this time, I have been contacted directly by LA Boxing regarding complaint ID [redacted], however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:
Half of my complaint has been resolved. I received my full refund; however, this does not stop the company from taking advantage of other customers.
In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.
Sincerely,
Review: I have tried to cancel my membership to this gym for a few months now. I have called numerous times and spoke with [redacted] regarding cancellation of my account. I am unable to come to the gym to cancel my membership. I sent numerous emails and phone calls regarding this matter. I have reviewed the previous contract which expired in July 2013 and it simply states that they need the cancellation notice in writing. I have emailed from the same email address that I have on file. Now I am getting harassing phone calls and emails every day regarding my gym membership. I have not attended this gym since October 2012 but kept since I paid the full price for the year. After the contract year ended I was rolled into month to month contract which I have tried to cancel for a the past few months.Desired Settlement: I would like to cancel my membership effective July and no further charges be applied to my account.

Sincerely,
Review: Upon expiration of 1 year contract the merchant refuses to cancel membership as requested . After filling the required cancellation forms and repeatedly requesting cancellation , the merchants representatives refused to stop future charges . No justification was presented . Cancellation forms were destroyed in my presence. No response or proposed solution from owner . The merchant representative/manger refused access to premises and services even after charging me for the monthly fee .Desired Settlement: Written apology for offensive practice. Immediate cancellation of memberships . Refund of fee for unused Private Training session .
Review: I am currently a member at your San Marcos location and have been dealing with this issue for months. Your management staff has been unwilling to do anything to fix this issue, despite repeated attempts for them to do so.
On July 31, 2013, I purchased a 10 pack personal training plan, which came with 2 free classes. When I inquired about the details of the personal training programs on July 30, I spoke with the manager, [redacted]. He explained the costs, how to achieve my desired results, and that if I was unhappy with the personal training after trying it out, I could get my money back. I went to one session. I did not like it and after I was able to return, once I recovered from food poisoning, I told [redacted] (my "trainer") that I did not wish to continue the personal training sessions because, as a lawyer, my schedule is unpredictable and it was difficult to figure out timing and I did not like the personal training and did not want to continue. I asked about getting my money back and [redacted] said he or I could talk to [redacted] about it. I asked [redacted] to speak to [redacted] about it. After several days went by with no sign of any refund, I contacted [redacted]. He said he did not know how to do a refund and would have to talk to someone about it and call me back. He did not call me back. I called him two additional times and he continued to claim he had to talk to someone about it and would call me back. To date, he has NEVER called me back.
After several weeks went by with zero attempt by [redacted] or anyone else at this gym to resolve this issue, I emailed the general LA Boxing at San Marcos email, explained everything that happened, how they were improperly keeping my money for services I am not receiving, and how I would be disputing it with my credit card company if they did not solve it on their end. Yet again, I received no response. Therefore, I initiated a dispute with my credit card company, [redacted]. It appears they have refunded the transaction either temporarily while they investigate or permanently as result of their investigation. Since that time, I received a notice last week, asserting my account was past due and that I owe a fee for the returned payment. I AGAIN emailed LA Boxing at San Marcos explaining why I did not owe anything, that if they attempt to charge me a late fee, I will dispute that as well, and I will take legal action if this is not cleared up. All I want is for this to be over, for LA Boxing to honor the terms that they stated, and for them to clear my account up once and for all. For some reason, LA Boxing appears to believe they are entitled to money for services they are not providing, which of course is theft.
I have never had such terrible customer service from anywhere. I am not sure if [redacted] is incompetent in his position or merely makes an active choice to blow off my calls and refuses to resolve this issue, but in either case its a poor reflection on their company. This whole experience has made me want to have nothing to do whatsoever with this company. I have provided written notice that I want my contract cancelled as soon as possible, once the initial contract period expires. Given my success at contacting people at this location and having my requests ignored, I am sure this is likely to be another issue in the near future.
I used to love LA Boxing and would recommend it to anyone who would listen, but given this terrible experience, I will make sure not to recommend them to anyone in the future and make sure people steer clear of a company that appears to have a practice of stealing people's money.Desired Settlement: If the money has only been temporarily refunded by [redacted], I would like it to be permanently refunded. If it has been permanently refunded, I would like my account cleared of thisfee and the so-called returned payment fee. In addition, I want my contract cancelled as soon as possible, either at the completion of my contract term or sooner.

Response:
The business has independently contacted me and resolved my issue. They have cleared my account and agree that I do not owe anything/ensured that I received a refund of my money. They have also comped me a month of membership for the inconvenience. I am very happy with the resolution. Thank you for your assistance.
Regards,
Review: I have cancelled my membership and they continue to bill me on a monthly basis. The did credit my card back in August and told me it would not happen again and September charged again and this time no 1 seems to want to assist including the corporate offices.Desired Settlement: credit back the dollar amount and make sure this does not continue to happen each and every month. I would also like a phone call back from the owner, which I was told on a few occasions this would happen.
Review: I canceled my membership at LA boxing in November; I handed a written form to [redacted]. I tried to cancel my in October but did not receive an email response back from the company. She told me that I had to pay My last month and that was it. She said I was canceling at the end of my contract so I was ok and would not be billed any additional. I just realized on March 20th, that they billed me account an additional 3 months. I attempted to speak to the manager [redacted] but she did not return any of my phone calls and she refused to speak with me when I called her columbia location. I tried reaching her on the number provided to me by the office at least 6 times to no avail. After my last payment in November I did not use any of the services at LA boxing. My account should have never been debited and I should have been treated with respect when I requested to speak with the manager. I want the last 3 debits from my account replaced. I want $252 back.Desired Settlement: I want a refund of $252

Responding to [redacted],
I have never met [redacted] face to face, my first encounter with her was via phone when I phoned to to let her know about her cancellation and her account was past due that was on November 16, 2012.
I left her a message and she returned the call, when we spoke I told her that her cancellation would not be accepted unless she did a buy out or had moved more than 25 miles from any LA Boxing or Permanent disability she asked why and I told her that she had frozen her account, which pushed her agreement out 4 months. [redacted] then stated she was out of town dealing with the death of her father and asked how much she was past due I told her $168 which she paid. I then told her she would expire January 20, 2013, she then asked what a buyout would be and I told her which ever is greater of the two balance owed or cancellation fee, she stated she could afford it and asked if she could just continue to be charged monthly which I agreed to. [redacted] called the [redacted] gym regarding her account they in turn called me, I had noticed that the do not continue button hadn't been activated and she was charged for March which she was refunded, she did not get charged for February.
[redacted] called our club on March 14, 15, and 16th threatening my front desk staff. On March 19 I returned her call and left my name and told her I would be at the [redacted] location until 7pm. On March 21, [redacted] again called [redacted] club and spoke to the Front Desk again threatening to call the police and bring the police which he told her she had her rights but there was nothing he could do. On March 25 she called the [redacted] club again and spoke to the gym Manager asking for an email which he gave her. On March 28 [redacted] came into the club requesting to see me, I was called on the phone from my General Manager (I was driving to a location for a meeting) I told him to handle the situation and explain again to her that she was not owed a refund, she then proceeded to ask for me and for him to call me, he told her I was unavailable (which I was) she proceeded to yell and scream at the staff then vandalize our club then ran out. Our Manager called the police by the time they got there she had left, police report was taken.
[redacted] called the [redacted] location where I was near and proceeded to yell and scream at the staff there, when I arrived they stated a crazy woman was screaming at them on the phone, I called [redacted] county Police just in case she came to the location and do the same she had done in [redacted], when the police arrived my Manager there handed him the phone and he proceeded to try and speak with her which she cursed screamed and yelled at him, he finally got her information and told her not to contact the club and to take it to small claims court it was a civil matter.
long and short of it [redacted] joined us September 13, 2011 for 1 year she froze her account for 4 months which extended her account until January 2013.

Review: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
Nothing [redacted] said was accurate. I was never out of town due to the death of my father. Her and I only spoke once, in person, at the actual [redacted] location when I paid my final payment and signed my cancelation form. At that time she told me I was ok to cancel my membership because I was at the end of my contract. There was another manager there as witness. He no longer works for the company. The current manager at the [redacted] location told me there is a note on my account saying that I properly submitted a end of contract cancellation letter, [redacted] told him not to give me any documentation. I never threated any staff. I have the phone conversations on recording. [redacted] never told me to come to [redacted] and like SHE said herself, she never SPOKE to me so you know what she is saying is a lie. She never returned ANY of my calls and I can show phone records to prove this. The police escorted me to the [redacted] location and they deleted my file so I could not get any proof of paper work. My contract ended November. If I knew I was still a paying member why didn't I attend the gym? [redacted] is being dishonest.
Regards,
Review: Company refuses to cancel my membership and continues to charge me every month. I bought a pair of boxing gloves, and my card was stored on file without my authorization. I only agreed to pay for two months which I paid with cash. I have contacted this company and tried to correct the situation. They said I have to pay whats past due before I can cancel, If I dont then they will keep charging me every month.Desired Settlement: Cancel membership and stop charging me

Review: I tried cancelling my membership three times and three times I was billed for a membership I was told was cancelled. The final time I went directly to the manager of the gym had him cancel the account infront of me and give me a print out with his name on it. He also credited back the final month of membership payment back to my account. At the end of the month I received a phone call from a collection agency advising me that I owed back the money that was credited back to me.Desired Settlement: I would just like for LA Boxing to leave me alone. I cancelled my membership and would like for them and the collection agency they use to leave me be. I will not return to this gym nor will I ever recommend that anyone use it. This has caused a huge amount of inconvenience especially financially as one of their wrongful monthly charges cause my account to overdraft.
