Avoid Skyline Solar
**Avoid Skyline Solar** Looking back, we wish we had trusted the reviews on the BBB and avoided using Skyline Solar. This Company is deceptive and lacks integrity, timeliness, and proper communication. Skyline's sales team (Nick) and engineering staff completely over sold the system and then under delivered on their promises. Here are the facts (which will be undisputed by Skyline) from start to finish. We were sold on a system that would over produce in the summer months to pay for our usage during the winter here in Iowa. The chart in their presentation even showed it! Turns out the chart was not of our usage but just a generic model. Skyline never graphed our usage and assumed that the chart would cover, they were wrong. We use approx. 1,900 kWh during our peak summer months and the chart showed us only using 1,400 kWh. They also committed to 99% coverage with the system (it is on their proposal), we have been paying Mid-American well over $100+ every month since the system has been turned on in June of 2022 and have yet to bank one iota of energy for winter. Turns out that they took some averages of our billing (instead of graphing our usage) and promised during the sales pitch that the system would cover. The difference, which I graphed and demonstrated to them later, shorted us a significant amount of kWh for the year. Mind you that these people are supposed to be the experts! Contract was terrible (please read it). Coming from a contracts background for work, it is full of language that is not good for you as the consumer and so we had to negotiate terms. We signed in October 2021. They promise to have the system up and running in 120 days, it wasn't operational till 8 months later. The team installing was brand new and knew very little of what they were doing. The panel installation looked horrible (which I made them fix), a man fell through the ceiling of my brand-new garage and the foreman almost dug a hole through live power lines (had I not been there to stop him). As other reviews have noted, they went radio silent after install. No communication, no calls, nothing. As the consumer, I had to constantly probe them as to why the system was not operational. After a list of excuses, Skyline finally stepped up and finished their part and got the system turned on. We could tell there was a problem right away and that it was not meeting the expectations set out by Nick on their sales team. Immediately, they tried to blame us and our usage as the problem, but I demonstrated through billing that we were using less than in 2021 and should be over producing per their chart. Then they tried blaming us for a lack of accurate data on our billing. We quick showed them (via an accurate chart) that it was their engineering team who took liberties and did not graph out our usage and instead used an average that shorted us. They never stepped up and took responsibility for their issues and that lack of integrity it what bothers us the most. We spent the next 4 months trying to get them to fix the system and make it right, but they ultimately refused and offered only to change out some light bulbs and the thermostat (which was already brand new) as a "fix" to the problem. They refused to upgrade the panels to meet their 99% expectation and would not give us a partial refund either. We will ultimately spend $1000's of dollars more now over the life of this system and wish that we had never contracted with Skyline Solar.

+1

First of all, this started out great, however once the panels were put up and it was basically to late to change our minds, it turned in to nothing but issues. All the promises given started to fall apart. First all the light bulbs weren't done as promised, no biggy. Then the gentlemen who was suppose to install the bulbs and thermostat, was really unprofessional, basically telling me and my 11 year old he hated his job, then he refused to change the thermostat because he was not trained and messed up somebody else's heater. So after weeks of text messages, we got the light bulbs and someone to come install the thermostat. Well the thermostat given was not compatible, so they have to order a new one, fine again no biggy. Well guess what woke up this morning and the heater is so loud, sound like a dump truck sitting outside my house. They send the same guy and he blames it on the blower going out, it was fine before he showed up. So know we sit her cold and waiting for our project manager or another guy who has to talk to his boss on how to fix this. On top of it all, we don't even know if there is enough panels to save any money. So far I will not recommend this company and would love to find out if I can get out of all this!

We originally scheduled our technicians to replace the LED lights and smart thermostat on December 19th of 2019. One technician was able to get all the lights replaced except the 4 ft tubes because the ballasts were not compatible with the LED fixtures. The other technician that was supposed to come on the same date and install the smart thermostat wasn’t able to make it due to time constraints. After communicating with the customer we were able to schedule another date to install their smart thermostat. Once the smart thermostat was installed we tested it to see if it was working and upon realizing it wasn’t we installed their old thermostat again. We made a plan to come back and try out another brand in hopes that we could provide the customer with a smart thermostat. When the customer notified us of their furnace issue we sent our crew member out to inspect the furnace. He reported to us that the fan in the furnace was scraping the sides and thus causing the bad sound. This would not be an issue from attempting to replace the thermostat. We informed the customer of this and advised that they reach out to a professional HVAC company to diagnose their issue for certain. We informed them that if any issue was the fault of the attempted thermostat installation we would be happy to cover the damages, but if it was an existing, unrelated issue, then it would be the customer’s responsibility.

We agreed to a solar system that Skyline initially designed for us. Upon further inspection Skyline withdrew from the contract as they could not install the solar system on our roof after initial inspection. We chose not to continue on with Skyline for a ground mount and notified Skyline for approximately 3 weeks now to cancel the initial loan as we cannot at this point. The lender instructed me that only Skyline can cancel the loan. To date we cannot get a hold of anyone nor have they contacted us back after several requests to cancel the loan.

As retirees on a fixed income we were told and sold these premises; a) that we could afford solar and decrease our electrical bill by applying solar to our house. b). That by using the 30% renewable energy credit as a down/incentive payment. c) We were given payment schedule showing the renewable energy credit and the date we needed to pass it on to keep the payments at $82.03/month util 11/17/2037.
After filing my income tax, it was obvious this was a tax liability credit (which as seniors on a fixed income, will never have the tax liability to use it) and would not be given to us as represented by the sales person Nicholas B at 970-424-9852 or the Area Rep at 385-289-1995.

We regret to hear that this customer is dissatisfied regarding their situation with not qualifying for the federal tax credit. We have reviewed the calls, emails, notes and documents available to ensure we have a full understanding of what has been presented and communicated to the customer.During a call we had with the customer on July 19, 2019, they said: “it was never given to us that it would be a tax credit”. Every proposal we present specifically shows that it is a Federal Tax Credit so that there is no confusion as to what we are referring to when we speak about it. In addition to that, our proposal states the following: “SkyLine Solar does not provide tax or legal advice. You should consult your tax advisor for more information...The data provided in this proposal is a preliminary estimate and does not represent a binding agreement or obligation. No party provides and guarantees, warranties, or representations regarding the production, utility rate increases, or any other data in this sales proposal.” As a follow up to what we show on the proposal and discuss with the customer, we do a confirmation call between the customer and a member of our sales support team wherein we explicitly state that it is a tax credit. We train our employees out in the field and in our office to make sure they understand key information regarding the tax credit and we encourage our customers to consult with their tax advisor to make sure they fully understand the tax credit. We have asked the customer to provide us with proof of the tax credit being promised to them and have not received anything as of yet. If we do receive further information we will look into it with careful detail to make sure we are acting in good faith. Based on our investigation into this case we will not be providing the desired settlement.

1. Please see the proposal below for *** and ***. Here, it shows that the $5,387 amount is indeed a Federal Tax Credit. On the final page is where our disclaimer is that says:"SkyLine Solar does not provide tax or legal advice. You should consult your tax advisor for more information. The interest rate provided in this proposal is subject to credit approval by the financing provider for your loan. The data provided in this proposal is a preliminary estimate and does not represent a binding agreement or obligation. No party provides and guarantees, warranties, or representations regarding the production, utility rate increases, or any other data in this sales proposal. This proposal is a preliminary estimate and not an approval for financing."2. We feel we've treated this customer very fairly. When this customer expressed a desire to cancel on 9/23/17, we offered them two additional solar panels at no cost bringing their total to 17 panels which they agreed to. We feel we did the best job possible in keeping this customer up to date throughout their process and working with them with any clarifications they asked for. In no way were we trying to hide any information, especially information about the federal tax credit. 3. On the second page of the proposal below, it shows that their monthly solar payments for months 16+ would be $93 assuming they (Apply all incentives towards the loan) meaning the federal tax credit ($5,387) or any other incentive that applies, which were none in that area that we were aware of at the time.4. The loan agreement signed by the customer states:"No Tax Advice. Borrower agrees that Lender has not given Borrower any advice about tax or other benefits (including without limitation Solar Incentives or other incentives, rebates, or credits) Borrower might receive in connection with the Collateral. Borrower should consult with Borrower’s own tax and financial advisors about any tax or other benefits, incentives, rebates, or credits Borrower might receive in connection with the Collateral. Borrower’s obligations under this Agreement are not conditioned or dependent on Borrower’s receipt of any tax or other benefit, incentive, rebate, or credit."5. The sales representative who worked with this customer is no longer with Skyline and are, therefore, not representatives of Skyline currently for this issue. We do have a note in our records from the sales rep that mentions he "Pitched and reviewed the proposal with the customer." 6. Again, we feel Skyline made a reasonable and honest effort in helping the customer understand the basics of the deal they were signing up for. We do not feel we should be legally or morally obligated to pay the customer any additional money they are requesting from us.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

Sincerely,Their is discrepancy in their response. The first mis-quote is that they gave us

two more panels at no cost. First of all the two additional panels was because the need

was because they processed our need on last year or two, when we were in AZ., 5 months out of

the year so we knew that was not going to cover once in the house throughout the year. SO, they charged us

$900 for those two additional panels. I have takes to both the original contact that set up our appt., and the

energy consultant/salesman. Learned a great deal about the business. One, being that this top salesmen left

around six months ago taking with him his crew. He’s there because he fells that the business (Solar)

offers a better value and doesn’t have to worry about this company putting seniors with no tax liability

in a compromised situation. Of course, he is not going, at this late date, remember or admit to the exclusion

of this being a tax liability credit only. And/or remembering the “Choose to pocket or put down as an incentive

down to keep at the “affordable” payment. However, through our conversation he asked for information off my

2017 income tax return, that it was obvious we were not tax liable and shouldn’t have been sold on that premise.

He felt bad that we were as retirees put in that situation. I will try to contact one of the owners that he feels will be

more receptive to the position as retirees and DAV, have been put in. Sincerely ***y.

Solar system just installed! So excited they look so much slicker in person than in the photos they showed me. I had called around to get other bids from other solar companies and they are very competitive. They communicated very well. Install was supposed to take up to 90 days but it happened in like 4 weeks! Again super excited thanks Michael!

I live in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Solar is still fairly new. I did a lot of research and asked a ton of questions. I own 2 houses and I was going to have solar on both if I decided to. I had the pleasure of working with Justin the sales rep and he is FANTASTIC!!!! The installation crew was just as Great! I would HIGHLY recommend Skyline Solar to install your panels, they are very professional and easy to work with. The financing was simple and also great rates, I also enjoy the piece of mind having a 25 year warranty on my equipment.

Pierson Skyline Solar, LLC sent email 1:32 pm 8/30/18 for $750.00 cancellation fee due upon receipt. I cancelled agreement 8/11/18. Solar purchase & installation agreement does not mention a cancellation fee for termination. Contract does mention "customer may terminate this agreement at any time by executing & deliverying to the company the notice of termination". They received notice signed by employee CM 11:39 am 8/13/18. Other than Invoice for Cancellation Fees, the only paperwork I have is the Solar Purchase & Installation Agreement. No work was performed or equipment installed at my home. Steven came to my house one time for site inspection to check out attic, roof, electrical panel & take pics of panel. He spent about an hour at the house. I have had no contact with Skyline Solar, LLC since 8/15/18.

I gave this company benefit of doubt after reading one bad review from a customer (over termination fee as well). I would not recommend their services. My experience with Skyline Solar & their employees has not been satisfactory. Not able to contact employees by telephone/email. Employees/Peter, project manager giving incorrect email address, not returning cell phone calls nor answering emails or waiting four days to respond.

I have contacted Senator ***'s office to file a complaint & they have forwarded it to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for their review.

Skyline Solar Response • Oct 03, 2018

First off we are very sad to hear that any of our customers feel this way. The customers information is missing some of the details. The agreements the customers has provides information regarding.cancellation. And there is a 3 day Right of Recession that the customers are given. The issue with not being able to move forward with the customers solar account has cause the customer a lot of frustration. The customers solar system size is being denied by his utility company because of his previous usage did not come within the ranges they they allow. We have requested the exception for this and the delays in communication come from the utility company. There were other fees that were included within the $750 cancellation free. We had to do the permitting, design, site survey (the one the customers mentions) and may other factors. The customer will always have the option to call in and speak with Anthony G 801.473.2128, [email protected]. He can leave me a message or send me a text.

We are willing to communicate but we have several sources with lists of unanswered calls within the time frame the customer has listed. They started in July and ended about mid-late August. He's been texted and emailed with no communication. If you can get the customer to call me we would like to figure something out with them.

I was contacted by Skyline Solar sometime in May about getting solar for my home. I agreed to get this but have since found out that I was misinformed about many things, lied to about many things, told I have to dish out money for things I was not informed about and as of today, 09/04/2018, I still have no solar power, but I have made 2 payments to their finance company for it. Now when I try to get in touch with anyone from the company, I have not been able to reach anyone. I'm lost now as what to do. I have the solar panels on my roof. I have their metering system attached to the outside of my home. I have had to cut down bushes because they installed the metering system behind these bushes which didn't pass inspection. Hade, the city inspector here in Pueblo even suggested I file a complaint with the Revdex.com.

We did reach out to the customer. She did agree to get the solar. The customer was provided with 100% accurate information regarding the solar system. She has been told that for any solar payments she has made that we would reimburse her once she fixed a issue. The issue is that the customer has a power meter inside her home. This is not normally and issue since we have other customers that have the power meters inside there house. The customers final inspection failed with the City/County due to the power meter being indoors and surrounded by un-permitted work. There was an addition put onto the home prior to the customer moving in 33 years ago. The customer has been in very good contact with Skyline Solar. I just spoke to her again yesterday. She was able to put me in contact with someone that could give us an update. Ashely with Black Hills. I spoke to Ashely and she told me that she informed the customer that the fees were required and the customer would be responsible for moving the meter to connect the solar. We have offered the customer many solutions about this but any out of pocket money conversation she shoots down. We have given her the option of adding $36~ per month for 94 months. Its about 3500~ to finance the meeter and that we would give her addition months of her solar free to help offset the costs. The customer refuses to pay anything since she didnt build the add on that was un-permitted. Black Hills stated plainly that by the customer owning the home she takes responsibility for the entire home and they will not grant an exception. At this point since we are at the very final stage of the customers project and the panels on on the roof. It would cost more to the customer to have us remove the system than to have her do the upgrade.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
I have reported problems to you about this company. I have tried to get some kind of resolution from them and they have not done so. I wrote an e-mail to them earlier this week asking them to either fix the problems or remove their panels and fix the damage that would cause and they have not answered me. This is how the communication goes with them. They just ignore me This has been going on since May!. Before we even had anything installed, I asked if my house was set up okay for the solar to be installed. I was told that everything was fine. The problem now is that my existing meter must be moved at a cost of $2500 dollars, according to Skyline Solar. If I had known at the onset that this was going to be a problem, I would not have agreed to the solar being installed. Also in the process, my breaker box apparently needed upgraded at a cost of $200, which I took care of. I have paid 5 payments to the finance company for the solar and I haven't even been able to use it. This company is full of promises and then don't follow through. Please can I get some kind of help.
Sincerely

I had been looking to get solar on my house for some time now. I got in touch with Jeremy W. He answered all my millions questions that I had and never pressured me into doing anything. When I decided to pull the trigger they they where fast and efficient to work with. They have done everything that they said they where going to do and have got it done faster than was originally told. I would recommend them to anyone looking to get solar. Looking forward to many years of solar benefits! Thanks again.

Skyline solar just installed my new solar system - did a beautiful, professional job! Looks so nice on my roof cannot be seen from the front of the house !! Highly recommend this company!

This company gave me a many false statements and pressure me to sign papers without reading them. A sales person came to my house and got me on the phone with another person telling me what I would pay for solar panels. After 3 or 4 weeks I got a letter saying I was going to pay way more money that I was told and that it would pay that for 15 years. Once I cancelled the service I got a letter from GreenLine Solar charging me for the inspection on the house. The sales person said, I could cancel at any time without a charge but as of today I owe more than $400 and has negatively impacted my credit score.

So far so good! Jeremy W dropped by and returned at a more convenient time for us, and did the sales pitch. We'd listened to several solar companies before, but this time the technology and costs sold themselves. Jeremy and all the other service reps that we communicated with were awesome and responded very promptly. All the work as been great so far, and now we're just waiting on our regular power company to give us the switch.

Skyline Solar has been a great company to work with. They called me regularly to let me know where we were in the process of installing solar panels. They were always positive to work with and answered my questions. I highly recommend their services.

I had a sales person come by my home around 7:30pm. He seemed nice enough but did not know much about the company. I understand his job was to setup appointments. I was interested and setup an appointment. They immediately sent a text confirming the appointment for th following week. A follow up text was sent the day before the appointment stating that a 30 minute window needed to be given on either side of the appointment and that I needed to have my electric bills ready. I rearranged my schedule and made the appropriate time adjustments and got the paperwork together. The day of I received another text reminding me to be on time. I arrived home, taking time off work and waited. After waiting an hour past the scheduled appointment I left to go back to work. There was no call or text explaining why they were late. No contact was made what so ever. The sales agent that I never met shared more about this company by his absence and failure to communicate his tardiness. I would recommend not waistline your time looking at this company. If this is how they treat someone they are trying to get business from I shudder to think how they treat you after you have singed a contract!

Excellent service

Skyline Solar enabled us to make our dream come true of switching over to solar energy. Skyline's program makes it affordable. Kyle responds very quickly to customer communication. I enjoyed working with him.

Skyline subcontracts with Altaray. We did have a problem with Altaray in that they said they would contact our city for the inspection, and they did not. I finally contacted the city myself after waiting a couple of months.

As far as Skyline Solar, itself, I asked a lot of questions and wanted a lot of information. All interactions with Skyline Solar, itself, were positive; they followed through with everything they said they would do and gave me answers to all my questions quickly and thoroughly. Every time I asked Kyle about Altaray, I received communication from Altaray within 24 hours. I feel that Kyle is reliable and works with high integrity. I have already recommended Skyline Solar to several people.

Skyline solar are very nice they are on top of letting you know when they will be coming to talk with you. They call and keep you up to date on all the progress that is going on and when it will be happening. I would recommend Jeremy Waite to anyone who would like solar.

Jeremy Waite was able to answer every question that we had for him. I'm so happy they he was so knowledgeable about it. It made us feel so comfortable out the process.

Jeremy with Skyline Solar is awesome very knowledgeable and courteous. I would definitely recommend!

Jeremey at Skyline Solar was great. He answered all my questions and made the process very easy. I referred him to my sister and within a few days she also switched to solar. Great job Jeremy.
