Per a very significant leak in my water meter due to nature winning versus a man-made appliance my water bill jumped from an average $50-$60 to $1000.08. At which point KPUD's meter reader, who could've notified anyone at all that the meter itself was spewing water, left a note on my door and KPUD called me and and explained that I "may have a leak" and should hire a "leak finder" to find it." I did. He told me, "the leak IS your meter, you need a leak fixer not a leak finder." and then he fixed it. In the interim between finding and fixing the leak the meter spun round to the tune of nearly $5000. At the discretion of KPUD they adjusted my subsequent bill to around $307. That adds up to a total of approximately $1300 for absolutely nothing. No service, No water, Nothing. KPUD services a well on an easement on my land that services four residential dwellings. The leaked water soaks into the ground, hits the water table, gets slurped up into the well and runs right back through our meters because that's how wells work. KPUD is losing no money by treating a customer fairly. I believe $1000 dollars for one bill is more than enough to cover what they haven't lost at all and to be perfectly honest, I deserve a refund. All I'm asking for, however, is a fair adjustment. I have paid my subsequent bill for water that reached my house after the leak was fixed. KPUD continues harass me by shutting off my only source of water, charging me to do so and to notify me that they've done so and has since sabotaged the meter so I cannot turn it back on without wasting water. I have done nothing to deserve this treatment. I've been compliant as any paying customer when there's only one service provider, doing my part and I've spent more than enough money on this matter already. The treatment I'm receiving from KPUD is that of a delinquent criminal when they are the ones harassing me, making me feel like less of a citizen and myopically overcharging me for something out of my control.
We are currently working on a very limited in office staff due to the COVID-19 situation. We have a virtual Board of Commissioners meeting today and should have a response after that.
