King Taxi

Review: I got in a cab at the [redacted] hotel in Newport, NJ to come back to Manhattan - the cab diver pulled over to pick us up even though his top light was not on. It was around 1am on Sept 29th. Then as we drove off the cab driver said it would be $55 plus toll. When I told him that's not the price and asked him to leave the meter on, he argued a bit and then said $45 plus the toll, and even though he had an easy pass (toll rate of $8.25 off peak) he said it would be $13 because it was company policy - so he wanted $58 cash, and made me pay upfront. He also said the $45 rate was company policy, and then called and spoke to someone in another language to try and prove it. He REFUSED to show any documentation in the cab or otherwise to show the legitimate rate for the trip. He also left the meter on during the trip, and it ended up in the low 20's when we got out at our destination even though he took a number of wrong turns.

1) The night before we got a taxi from the exact same spot back to New York City for $35.

2) The cab driver refused to show us any documentation justifying the fare.

3) The cab driver made us pay him up front for the trip

4) The cab driver made us pay a higher price for the toll than the actual toll... $13 he charged vs. the $8.25 rate he got on e-z pass.

5) He initially asked for a price $10 higher than what he later said was the flat company rate.

I have a receipt written by the cab driver for the $58 charge and a picture of the cab. I also have 3 witnesses. The destination was about 4 miles from the pickup location. We were not treated appropriately and were overcharged. It is not right for cab drivers to be taking advantage of people and I'm tired of it. I want a refund or I'm going to file a police report.Desired Settlement: I want a cash refund for the entire fare due to the unjust and illegal actions taken by the cab driver.
