We were contacted by Kenmark (the builder of our house) to hire Home Value Restoration (out of Minnesota) to roof our house after the May 2014 hail storm. Kenmark said they would warranty all of their work. 1” to 1.5" of shingle was hanging over the drip edge on a 3" gutter, forty plus nail heads are showing and a couple of vents were not replaced. When this was pointed out to the roofing contractor his response was your framing is not square. At this point the roof was almost completed. The roofing crew tried to trim the shingles even with the drip edge...not even close (the entire bottom edge is now compromised and torn, not cut and far from straight). A city building inspector told us "roofing 101 is to put the starter strip and the first shingle flush with the drip edge and never more than 1/2" over hang." When Kenmark was contacted the response was "it will shed water and we will warranty any leaks (tar paper will shed water, but it doesn’t mean it’s the correct way to roof a house). A professional roofer told us it will shed water, but it is the worst looking roof job he's ever seen. A roof put on correctly adds value to a home; it is not there to just shed water.
