I enrolled in a class at [redacted] that required 2 books to be purchased at KB bookstore. I checked KBs web site the night before to see what the prices were for the books. The web site listed a used price of $26.25 and a new price of $33.95. I visited the [redacted] KB Bookstore the next day, January 25, 2012 to purchase 2 used copies of the books. When I arrived I found the location of the books and saw there were only new copies available. I inquired with the clerk as to the possible availability of used copies, and he said, Oh those books are published by KB Books and are never available as used copies. I then asked, If they are never available as used copies, why does the KB Bookstore web site advertise that they sell used copies, and list a used copy price? He said he didnt know and that he had just started working there about a month ago, so he wasnt really sure. I then asked a different employee the same question, and got the same response. I went to pay for my books because I have to have them for this class (Political Science 102), and I inquired with the cashier as well, she said she didnt know either. All three of these employees didnt know the answer, and when I asked if they were a customer and I gave them the same responses they gave me, would they be satisfied, they all responded, No. I then asked if I could speak with the manager to inquire as to why KB Bookstore would engage in False Advertising and Bait and Switch advertising. The manager, [redacted] told me, Well, our software just does that, I dont know why. I dont have any control over the software on the computer. And when probed further as to why they would advertise a product they never offer he responded, I dont know the computer just does that. I asked him if he would be satisfied as a customer if he came to a store to buy an item at one price and was tricked into buying a higher priced item because he was baited by their web site offering the lower priced item, and his response was, I dont know.
