JRB General Contracting Services Reviews (%countItem)

Jarrett did terrible work riddled with mistakes, and never finished even though he was paid. He constantly made excuses as to why he couldn't show up on the job site, and just stopped showing up one day after being paid. One of the worst contractors I've ever dealt with.

in regards to this review-lets talk about this customer:Tracy and Sean.

I was hired to partially renovate 2 bathrooms. That was the original scope. This job entailed:
1) install customer supplied bathtub(still needed plumbing)
2) install customer supplied shower faucet unit(old faucet needed to be removed and new unit needed to be installed)
3) install customer supplied vanity(plumbing needed to be corrected)

This job was originally quoted at $1000.00 per bathroom
customer to supply ALL MATERIALS to complete the work as per scope and text messages(that have been saved)

by the way-these were nice people on the first visit, and during the first initial bathroom.

day of start:

arrived at the residence, customer had no materials to get started on the job.asked about where I could find them in the house, and was told they were not picked up yet?was told to pick them up and he would pay me. Not part of the original conversation.
No big deal.Talked to customer about some additional plumbing work that was noticed,as well as a rotten floor around the toilet flange.
Was met with a comment from the customer"you should have noticed this".
Already a bad start to the project.
I ignored the comment and priced out some additional recommended work.only recommended.
customer gave the authorization to complete the additional work.
after much hesitation from the customer to supply funds for the materials needed for the jobs(as per the original conversation)I went and purchased the materials.
Was not charged extra for this service of picking out and delivering the materials to complete the job.
bathroom # 1:
Original tub was larger than what customer supplied, bathtub drain had to be re positioned as the floor joist was in the middle of the position of the new customer supplied tub.
Explained this to the customer and 2 walls were strapped out,re-drywalled and tub installed with new drain.
Flooring around old toilet flange removed, old toilet flange cut out,new flange and coupler installed, flooring re-enforced and repaired with new t & g 3/4' flooring.properly installed.
toilet water supply line re positioned to come up through wall,as well as hot/cold water supply lines for vanity sink removed from floor and re-routed through wall.vanity drain was re-done due to height & access to customer supplied wall mounted vanity.
Drywall repaired on both walls and mudded.
This was charged a total of $1,450.00 for this complete service.

Was paid $600.00 by

sean(customer's husband) upon the 3rd day of work.he was apologetic on the additional work that needed to be completed.

customer had a tiling contractor to complete the work on the shower area and flooring,I finished mudding the walls in the shower(not quoted, but completed as part of the service at no additional charge).could not complete the installation of the vanity,or plumbing due to tiling that needed to be completed by their contractor, and finishing/painting on the walls by the customer.

went to ask for a partial payment, and was then told that waterproofing was also included in our conversation?
again,no big deal, just waterproofed the shower area for the customer at no charge.customer paid for the waterproofing(redguard) only.
I paid for and picked up the waterproofing and was paid for the materials only(was paid exact amount of the reciept,no additional for my time or delivery)
was paid $850.00 thru e-transfer for the balance.
was contacted by customer a couple of weeks later that the tile contractor was not shown up as of yet,and they would let me know when I could get started on bathroom #2.

after a while, was contacted by customer.
Tracy wanted the 2nd bathroom demo'd and to get going on it.I explained that I was extremely busy, but would keep in contact with her as to when I could schedule the work. This was ok'd by the customer.
a short time later,Tracy was advised by her tile contractor that he would be starting a new job on the 18th of the month, and would not be available after that time.
she had asked me if I could have the demo in the 2nd bathroom completed with enough time to accommodate her tile contractor.
I attempted to have this done, but had to bring in a helper to speed up the process, and re-schedule numerous other projects that were on the go as well, but I did to accommodate my customer.
through the course of the 2nd bathroom, additional work was asked to be completed on both bathrooms(removal of old medicine cabinets & patch over cavities),repair wall in basement.

the time frame would not allow for the project to be completed in order for their tile contractor to come in.
I was very clear in explaining this to the customer, and it was decided that I would supply another tile contractor to match the pricing of their original contractor.
so their contractor was removed.
this took alot of pressure off of me,and the 2nd bathroom was ready for tiling.

the tile contractor that was brought in by me were not professionals and I made this very clear with the customer,as no other professional would have completed the work with the budget they allowed and the time frame I was given to find a pro tiler.
My job was to work with them and get the jobs completed.

I was contacted by the customer about the workmanship regarding the tiling, not about any workmanship of mine.I contacted the person that completed the tile work, and was explained by them that the customer had been extremely unruly, aggressive and would not allow them to correct any discrepancies.they were paid $160.00 for the work,as the customer refused to pay them anything additional.

on last conversation from my tile contractor,I was advised that when her husband visited the customer to pickup a few of their items, her husband was met with extreme hostility and was assaulted by the customers husband"Sean"

This alarmed me,so it was decided to not persue any interaction further with the customer,as I am unaware of what could possibly ensue on the jobsite.

To date,I have only been paid $500.00 on the 2nd bathroom, including the extra work.
the bathroom has been completely tiled.
my helper to speed the process along was paid for his time.which made the total amount that was paid for my time and work completed:$250.00

to date, the customer is in debt to me:$1,250.00

based on how my subcontractor was treated, and for personal safety reasons, work was stopped.

no mistakes had ever been brought to my attention through both bathroom renovations.I would have assumed the customer would have spoken to me while I was on site.especially completing 2 bathrooms in a row.

I have never been meet with any conversation regarding a "no show" on the job site. This was completed as per her guidelines and scheduling my time based on her other contractor.

in regards to her comment:" One of the worst contractors I've ever dealt with"
I find this to be very unprofessional by the customer,as there were not only 1 but 2 bathrooms that were 90% completed?I would have assumed if she was unhappy with me,she would have gone with a more suitable contractor for the additional bathroom?
not including the additional work that was asked for,and the soliciting my company for any future work.
I will assume the customer did not remember the conversation.I do.
in regards to the "payment"the customer claims was referring to:
again,I was paid in full for the 1st bathroom, just waiting for the customer to finish so I could install the customer supplied items.
see outstanding.

monies that are owed.
I will not give my personal opinion of these people,as I am a professional and love interacting with my customers.
It's unrealistic to bully contractors, expect them to work for free, and then leave them a review like this, especially with the amount of work that was not paid for.
I wish them nothing but the best in the future, and hope they can find a more suitable contractor.

I wish you all the best Sean and Tracy.
