I asked JM Lapp along with 3 other contractors for an estimate to purchase and install a new natural gas boiler. The boiler was installed but when the township came out to inspect the work the installation failed the inspection. I contacted JM Lapp and sent them a copy of the items that needed to be fixed before inspection. They told me that normally they do not have to do installations like this except for commercial entities and sent me another invoice for over $850 for the "additional" work they will have to do. I protested in that 1) a contractor should be checking the codes for a municipality before they prepare the proposal --that should not be the responsibility of the resident and 2) I had signed the proposal because they came highly recommended and their price was the lowest. With the additional charges the job was now higher than at least one other proposal. They then "revised" the second invoice to $540. I paid it because I needed the job done before the permit expired and because I want to sell my home.
I don't know if the problem is that they do not check codes, (ignorance) for the municipality in which they are doing the work, or if they purposely underbid competitors, then add extra charges. Either way, they will not receive any additional work from me, nor will I recommend them to anyone else. At the very least they should have stood by their proposal and acknowledged their mistake without charging me a penny more.

I contracted this company to install a water softener that I purchased on line. I was assured that they would be able to install softener after sending information to the company about the softener. The technician arrived, installed the softener and gave no information on the operation of this system and left. Approximately10 days later I contacted the company and spoke again to ‘Daniel’ and expressed concern about possible improper installation. A follow up visit came in approximately 1 week with the same arrogant and unprofessional technician. He began to explain with “how do you expect proficiency from something that was delivered by ***”; however upon my insistence he did review the functionality of the system with me. I then received another bill from this company and immediately called them to complain about this bill. I again spoke to ‘Daniel’ and informed him that the technician never gave me the necessary information on the operation of the system and had I had that information with the initial installation a follow up visit would not have been necessary. I explained that the bill was unjust and unwarranted.

I contracted J M Lapp to install a water softener in my home. The technician arrived with an unprofessional and discourteous attitude. I requested a follow up to ensure the softener was installed properly because of what I perceived as a problem. The same arrogant technician returned and explained the operation to me that he initially had not done. I received a bill for the follow up visit and immediately contacted the company as this charge should have been part of the original service. I was very dissatisfied with the service and the company’s additional billing. For the service I received, I will never use or recommend this company for plumbing service.
