we called *** before applying and asked about deposit. Apartment manager quoted it begins at $400.. We applied for an apartment on 2/20 and were approved by 2/24. we have great rental and credit history so we were sure to get approved. That is when we were told our deposit would be equal to a full months rent at $1360. I immediately asked why it was so high. The apt manager gave me the number to the background screening company and told me I had to call and ask them myself. Upon doing so I found out that there was a miscalculation with ***’s income and due to “extremely low income“ found by them, a full months rent for security deposit was determined. *** called her employer to get the income verification corrected and while doing so she’s been asking questions to both Apt Manager and screening company to figure out more about the deciding factor behind the amount determined for the deposit. Apartment Manager misled us and told us that the screening company decides that and she has no idea what the determining factors are however the screening company told us that the Apt Manager is responsible for determining that. When questioning Apt Manager about how they decide between $400-$13 60… Apartment Manager said it’s either/or And there’s no in between which is not how she said it when I called before applying. We were also told the apartment complex and rental company JK management has all the power in that decision so *** gathered a letter from her employer and sent it over while Apt Manager claims she was asking her boss if they can change the deposit as well as getting updated income verification for the screening company. *** has denied changing the deposit. We have proof their income requirements are being met and therefore they have no reason to charge us the full amount for security deposit. We feel because of the dishonesty by ***, we do not trust moving forward with this rental contract.
