J&J's Tree Service

Review: I hired [redacted], owner/operator of J&J's Tree Service, to remove a large tree and stump from a rental property that I manage. While it is general policy to pay after service is performed, Mr. [redacted] insisted on receiving payment up front stating that he would have no assurance of receiving his payment after the work was done otherwise. $1,500 was paid up front to Mr. [redacted] for the removal of the tree, stump and all debris. On the date of service, 5/24, Mr. [redacted] removed the tree, but not the stump. I was informed by the tenant a few days later that the stump still remained at the property, so attempted to contact Mr. [redacted] multiple times by phone over the course of a week. Mr. [redacted] was finally reached by phone on 6/19 and he said he had a husband and wife team that he pays to remove the stumps that come out every couple of weeks. He said that the husband had been in the hospital with a clogged artery and the wife can't remove them by herself, but that they should be back to work soon and this would be their first job. Mr. [redacted] was supposed to provide a status update the following Monday, but again did not follow up and was unreachable. On 6/27 he returned a voicemail I left him and said he was waiting for the wife to get out of the hospital. I let him know we would be filing a Revdex.com report and to keep us updated on the situation as more than a month had gone by since we hired and paid him for this service. He assured me he was going to handle it, but has yet to take any action. I have since removed all of the debris myself, with the exception of the large stump, and the property has now received a violation from the Marion County Health Department for the stumps that are remaining.Desired Settlement: Remove the large stumps from the property before fines are assessed by the health department. If this is not possible, refund the money I paid for this service.
