Recently in StLouis for a conference, I ate dinner at JF Sanfilippo's with three colleaguesAfter we had paid, and our receipts were given to us, we noticed that we each had a set of receipts that did not matchMeaning, the itemized receipt had one amount, but the charge receipt had a different amountThe difference, for each of the four of us sitting at the table was between 12-centsWe probably would not have noticed, but since this was for work, I was keeping track of all of my receipts carefully and wondered if my employer would ask about the discrepancyWe asked the waitress, [redacted] , about the discrepancyFirst, she explained, "I rang you up at two different registers." I think we gave her a blank stare because that made no sense, so she said "I think the tax just went upIt's just pennies, right?" To which we gave more blank stares, but she had no further explanation nor did she offer to delete and adjust the chargesIt felt suspiciousI was "cashed out"
