Instant Urgent Care

I visited Direct Urgent Care in June for medical services. At that time I paid my bill using a credit card. Subsequently, I received a statement in the mail for a balance. Per the statement, on July 16, I sent a check to the address on the statement. The statement also provided a spot for a credit card number to be written down if the payee wants to pay by credit card (but I did not pay using this method).

On July 23, my credit card was charged for the balance. I was shocked since I never authorized this and had mailed a check. I called the phone number attached to the transaction (on my credit card bill) and was told that the number was not the correct one. I was given the number for Direct Urgent Care. Upon contacting Direct Urgent Care, they claimed that the they had the authorization to charge my card despite mailing me a statement and despite me having mailed them a check.

This is an extremely deceptive practice. No business should be allowed to store a credit card and use it in this manner. Sending a statement out asking for a check makes the whole practice a scam.
