I had a skiing accident and went to the emergency room at Incline Village Community Hospital for care on 2/17/14. I called my insurance company before I went to find out if I could go to this hospital because I was out of state and knew it would be out of network. The representative told me that I would pay $150 in co-pay for any out of network emergency room care and no more. I fractured my elbow and they told me not to move it and gave me a sling to wear. When I saw my orthopedist, they discussed that is inappropriate treatment- the arm needs to be moved. For the past 1.5 years, I have received 7 different bills from this hospital in addition to my co-payment that I paid. The bills vary from $118.50- $777. They came from 2 separate billing companies, [redacted] MD, Inc. and [redacted] Medical Group. Every time I received a new bill, I immediately called my insurance company and the appropriate billing company, and each time both said that they would discuss the case with each other. Each time I called my insurance company, they said that I only owed $150 in copayment. When I spoke with the billing companies, they both said that their physicians bill in addition from the emergency room because the provider is "out of network." When someone has an emergency, there is not time to find out which providers at a given hospital are in network. This practice of double billing is illegal in my state as part of the Emergency Medical Services and Surprise Bills Law but it is not a law in Nevada: [redacted] The hospital and my insurance company settled this on 4/10/14, but 15 months later on 7/27/15,[redacted], MD, Inc started sending me new bills for a different amount of money. My insurance company has tried to discuss with them but the wait times are too long and they hang up. [redacted], MD, Inc today refused to call my insurance company representative, prolong the date to pay the balance, or review their billing.Desired SettlementI am very frustrated by the inappropriate medical care that I received and the billing company and/or hospital unethically double billing in the case of an emergency. I request that they stop sending me bills and discuss appropriate payment with my health insurance company.Final Consumer Response
