When I was initially and hesitantly considering purchasing a membership package here, I was assured that if I purchased and changed my mind that I would have three days to cancel and receive a full refund. This is also stated in the contract, and I've since learned it is also a federal law. I bought a four month membership and paid for it all upfront. Two days later I found out I was pregnant, so I then had not only financial but also medical hesitations to take up a kickboxing membership, so I wrote the owner before the end of the third business day to cancel. The following day, I received a phone call from the owner who was very reluctant to accommodate my request. He said any initial fees paid went straight to corporate and were out of his control. He also said that pregnancy is not a valid medical reason to cancel and assured me many women continue to safely take classes well in to their pregnancy. He said he'd see what he could do and emailed me the next day to say they would refund 2 of my 4 contracted months. He said half of my partial refund would go through on 3/15 and the other half on 4/15. I had to hound him and ultimately call corporate to finally get my first part of the refund on 3/25. It is now 4/23 and I've yet to see the rest of my refund. I took maybe four more classes there, because I felt obligated since I was paying for it. I ended up miscarrying my baby shortly after. I'm not saying it was necessarily caused by these classes, but I wasn't comfortable following through with this physical commitment in the first place, and he should have honored that and definitely not been giving medical advice as to whether or not it is safe to continue. So not only should my medical reason have been sufficient, but I've since learned that it is simply federal law to be able to cancel a contract within three days of signing and that any refunds should be given within ten business days. Not only was my initial request to cancel denied, but I haven't even received the partial refund that was promised, so I'm disputing the entire charge, $577, minus that first partial refund of $125 that was received on 3/25.
